Van Alstine super pas 3 kit
« on: 20 Mar 2016, 09:16 pm »
HI
I'm a rookie at all this but I love audio.
I'm doing the van alstine kit in a Dynaco pass 3 x preamp.
Does any one have any pictures of the capacitors and resistors  installed on this kit.
Thanks

  • To whom more was given more will be required.

The Dyna PAS refuses to die. Good luck with your AVA rebuild and welcome to AC.

Great place to start - my first separate preamp was  a Pas3  modded by Van Alstine - over 30 years ago and I still remember how excited I was when I heard how great it sounded.

That is sort of where I started.  Got info from AVA on the kit and when I was going to order it to do my PAS3X, Frank had a sale.  Got the 4i, assembled, for a little more that I was planning to spend.  And it was tons better than the Dyna.  And after a transformer change and Frank's most recent op-amp upgrade, it still amazes me how great it sounds.  Still got the Dyna.  Get it out about once a year, fight hum from the jack panel, and listen a little.  I built it in the late 70's and it still works.  And sometimes I think "Maybe I ought to order that kit...."  But I get over it.
