AR-XA bearings
« on: 13 Jan 2016, 07:42 pm »
Hi, in the rebuilding and spiffing up the AR-XA following the Audio Basics 1983 instructions I found a helpful addition to the process.
When you take the tonearm off the tonearm post, removing the 2 tiny screws on the side and being ultra careful, there is the tonearm post with a circular piece of brass that comes out and needs to be cleaned and lubed. There are or is a small plastic bearing inside the brass piece where those 2 screws go in ala Frank VanAlstines directions.
I have come up with extra easy way to put brand new bearings or bearing sleeve in the brass part which is crucial to get the best sound from the whole setup.
If anyone is interested let me know, I'm a slow typer.I'd also like to take a couple pictures to share as most other crucial parts like head shells and motors and belts and even dust covers can still be got.
A ten year old could do this, thats why it finally dawned on me while watching Gilligan's Island reruns.
Let me know if there is any interest.......Mark Korda.
