So Jerry, since you asked us......What's yours?

Bob

My one song I will always play is Keith Don't Go by Nils Lofgren on the Acoustic Live album. This is such a great song. Just one guy on stage, puttin' it on for the crowd. Everyone I have ever played this song for ends up just smiling and nodding their head knowingly.
I think it's a great tune to show what a nice system can play music like.

Have fun,
Jerry

Awesome track! :thumb: :thumb:

Varies all the time, depends on the musical taste
of the listener...

It definitely depends on who the person is.  But as a general rule, when demoing my system for someone who has not heard a good system before, I try to play something that they have heard a million times before.  For example, playing "Come Away With Me" (Norah Jones) always evokes a response of "I have never heard that song *like that* before".  The Eagles' live version of "Hotel California" is also a pretty common one.

Overall, I find that if I play something for people who aren't audiophiles, they tend to get really fearful of it if I play something that isn't very mainstream.  The reactions are like "I just listen to popular music" or something along those lines.  If I play them something they know, they seem to appreciate the quality a lot more...

That's a good point Phil. I've wondered what "normal people" think of some of the music I listen to.
"Don't you have anything normal"?  :duh:

Good advice. I did just this last Saturday. A friend cruised through town and I asked him what his favorite album or song was. He said "Ball of Confusion (That's What the World is Today)" by the Temptations. I didn't think I had it, but a quick search in Slimserver and, lo and behold, there it was.( I had forgotten he had loaned me the disc 2 years ago) After listening he remarked that he had heard the song a million times, but had never FELT it before.

Muddy Waters - Folk Singer SACD - My Home is in the Delta.

Even on a entry level system it sounds likes the whole band is right in front of you.  For me it defines the term "soundstage".

From that album, I usually use Good Morning Little School Girl...

My latest is "That's All for Everyone" off of Tusk by Fleetwood Mac. Very simple, but great production, lush vocal swells that sweep you away, and some nice percussion.

I've also used "Low Country" from Michael Houser's posthumous Sandbox CD.

"Heart of the Sunrise" by Yes....

801 Live...one of the best sounding live albums I've heard.

If you were going to show someone how nice your system sounds, but could play only one song, what song would you play? Why that song?

Have fun,
Jerry

Reflections of Earth, from the 'Tapestry of Dreams' CD...the Disney Epcot fireworks music.

Just mind-blowing when everything's set up right...

It would depend on the person, obviously: Eva Cassidy's "Field of Gold" (I know, I know, but you'd be surprised how many people haven't heard it); "Willin" from Little Feat's Live At The Ram's Head; and "Talk To Me Of Mendocino" from The McGarrigle Hour are what I've been showing off lately. All great songs, with great sound. The first and third capture live events really well, and the second has great harmonies (Kate M. and her children Rufus and Martha Wainwright).
Hey, cat, just wanted to say that I, too, am a fan.  One album I treasure is Kate and Anna McGarrigle (self titled) recorded years earlier on Warner Bros.  But for this thread, how about Summertime, Blue Cheer?  I'm just shittin ya.  Maybe, Crime of the Century- Supertramp?  Dunno, really.

For CD it would be Yello - Planet Dada (Flamboyant) off of The Eye... Strictly electronic, but the imaging is just scary...  For vinyl it would be So Long, So Wrong from Alison Krauss & Union Station - Just heavenly.

For a surround track it would definitely be Omar Hakim - Listen Up!

Wow, someone else likes Joe Henry?? His 'Scar' and 'Fuse' albums just kill me.  Demarche, you might also like Tom McCrae, if you dig the Joe.
