Behrens had unusual longevity for a dramatic soprano, likely due to not singing such roles in her twenties, unlike many others.  She was well known for good vocal acting and stage presence to go along with a well-balanced, midsized voice.  She sang all the heavy roles in both German and Italian repertoires and was a particularly renowned  Isolde.

A fine singer with a great career.

She may not have had the most forceful voice but she sang her roles with passion and grace.  Some may not have liked that she turned Wagner into Bel Canto but I loved her beautiful tones.
