I am in the market for a dac would the hd-avp work well. I like the idea of being a hi-res player, having a usb dac and having xlr pre-outs.
I would only use the hd-avp for 2 channel listening.

I have an ADP. It's in one room where I listen to both 2 channel and home theater. It's a great product. I wish there was better documentation but it just takes time to dig deep into all its capabilities.
That said, as a single box doing a lot of things, there are better separate DACs, servers, stereo preamps and surround sound preamps. But not for the price. It is a true deal when it comes to price/performance.

HD-AVP is like a DAC-10 with big discount and free AVP。
HD-AVA is almost half the price of IDA-16.

I have a HD-AVA. Super happy with the USB DAC + IDA16ish amp. I dont use the other features. However I might just hook up a BD player for SACD via HDMI for DSD.
