I thought I was the only one on AC old enough to know the music of Martin Denny.  Most of his LP's were recorded in the mid to late fifties.  I have one LP and one CD..The Best of Martin Denny.  His Quiet Village cut is the most famous and was close to the top of the charts.

I didn't start listening to this stuff until the mid 90's, but love it dearly.  Besides the oldies (Denny, Esquiviel, Lyman, Scott) there are some good new groups like Pink Martini, Typsy, Combustible Edison and Don Tiki.

Thanks for the tips!  I recently ordered Esquiviel's "Space Age Bach. Pad" but must admit it was strickly by cover picture and title alone    I'll have to try checking out your newer suggestions eventually as well...

Recently Purchased:

Aimee Mann-Lost in Space
Carole King-A Natural Woman: The Ode Collection 1968-1976
Dave Matthews Band-Crash
Dave Matthews Band-Under the Tab ...

A few others I will highly suggest based on your previous purchases.

Eva Cassidy - Live at Blues Alley

...if you are picking up Songbird and know anything of her history, this is a must-have.  You can really hear her modesty and nervousness as she belts out some very personal songs.  ...something they cut from her studio-released stuff.

Jack Johnson - On and On
Jack Johnson - Brushfire Fairytales

...again, if you are picking up one, and want to hear his development as an artist, listening to these in order really give you a heightened view of where his head was throughout it all.  ...plus is just makes darn good summer-time tunes.

Aside from that, sounds like you are getting a good span of tunes going.  That Counting Crows is a must-have, as well as Dave's "Crash".  Enjoy them!

To everyone else:
I picked up the new one from Gorillaz, Demon Days.  If you liked a couple of their old songs, this new one will rock your world.  Much more range, each song is drastically different.  More of the songs have an actual message than the first.  Much cleaner recording than their first, main vocals are less "muted" with lots "air-ey" background vocals, including a children's chior for one or two tracks.  If you system puts out into the mid 20's, you'll appreciate how much more controlled the bass is, as compared to their first release.  A bit more electro-rock than a majority of you listen to, but as a pop and rap hater, it had just enough of what I needed to nab 9 tracks off to lossless (which is rare for me to take that many from a single CD).

i just bought the bozzio, levin, stevens, black light syndrome cd and i like it very much. it  has a jazz rock flamenco thing going on. the recording quality is very good and the musicians are top shelf. there are only seven tracks on this cd but all are good from begining to end.

New Pornographers are great, I have the new CD & LP on order. They are on tour right now!!

First two albums are great. The mastermind is AC Newman and his solo album is also one to pick up. Truly unusual pop! And nothing "dirty" about them, although it's hard sometimes to tell people how much you like them because of the eye-opening name.

Good reviews on popmatters.com and pitchforkmedia.com.

You'd also like the Shins and Rogue Wave if you like NP.

Tristan Prettyman - The Love EP

    Link to her music page.
Scroll down to her first CD.  She released it when she was 20yrs old, really really good stuff.  The tracks I considered noteable (and thusly ripped to lossless to be replayed forever and ever) are as follows:

"Evaporated" A little up-beat comparatively, toe-tap inducing, beware.
"Guest Check" Something in her voice in this one makes me think "Fiona?"
"Void" A very intimate sound to it, vocals sound a little more "raw" to me.

Well... as I was coming through the line at my local Disc Exchange, this one was in a small stack on the checkout counter with a smudged price tag, couldn't make it out for sure.  "This isn't really under a buck, is it?"  When the attendant said yea, I tossed it across to him to ring up as well.  ...didn't expect much out of it, but its been playing nonstop for a week now.  In addition, just now I checked her webpage, and she's got a new one out.  In addition to that, I just found out she's coming to town next month!  Doesn't get much better from a little-known female vocalist.

Listen To Bob Dylan : A Tribute Album ( 2 cds ) - Various Artists

I've never heard of any of these artists except for Jason Mraz but most of the performances are excellent . Of course Dylan's songs are are so good it's hard to screw them up.
