My local BB finally got this disc in!  It took awhile, but it was well worth the wait.  Deadwing is a little less hard rock oriented than In Absentia, tending to favor their prog leanings a bit more.  But after a couple listens I'd say it's nearly as good.  Really good songs and a bit more robust bass than the last ones.

I picked up this CD about a week ago, and I really like it.  I haven't heard In Absentia, so maybe I'll have to pick that one up as well.

WAITING for a cd?

thats so 2004 :)

just download the cd and burn it - your going to want to burn at 4x or slower and use a good disc, and a good burner to get it to a high level but - sure beats waiting!

I like Deadwing as well. I didn't grab me a quickly as In Absentia did - that was the first PT album I heard and I loved it immediately. I think Deadwing is like a lot of my favorite albums though, in that it takes many listens to fully appreciate. I'm seeing them live in two weeks so that should clinch it.  :D

Oh yeah, having Adrian Belew play on two cuts can't hurt...

Signify is an interesting counterpoint to In Absentia and Deadwing: more experimental and moody, less hard rock. Deadwing is in some ways more like Signify in this respect. These guys really have a broad range of styles and compositional approaches across their three latest albums.

John,

Great site - thanks (I think - my Visa card may get worn out though...). Here is my favorite site for all things prog and fusion. These guys have a very deep catalogue as well.

I've discovered a lot of great prog (new and old) on auralmoon.com. I sprang for the higher bitrate stream (witha small donation) and it's been worth it. Some og the prog coming out of Scandanavia is amazing -- Sigur Ros comes immediately to mind.
