^+1.

Last thing I need is another pair of speakers right now but those would be a "match made in heaven" with my Berning AE-230. I may toss in a bid, thanks for the heads up.

Wow, 465 bucks for Quad 63's.! Was that you? I heard the Berning 230 amp on Quad 57's and it was sweet. :thumb:

Nope, chickened out. Long drive and no solid explanation to give my wife.  :(

My buddy Rex bought a pair new years ago and paid about 6K.

What preamp would go well with the Quad 63's? I have them driven by a Music Reference RM-9 power amp.

Hi, I have the same setup:  The ESL 63's driven by an RM-9 power amp. Depending on whether or not you listen to LP's, how about just using a passive preamp for volume control? Or what about the RM-4+, which is passive line stage but tube-powered phono?

I have been using a pair of 2805’s for a while.  Two generations on from your 63’s.  When I talked to Kent from Electrostatic Solutions, he said he has every generation of Quads set up at home and he likes tube gear with all of them.

I may agree, I have both a VAC 70/70 300b push/pull tube amp (65 watts) and a Krell KSA250 amp of many watts... They both sound very good but, the tube gear makes the Quads really open up their sound.

Kent was using an Audio Research Reference 75.  The problem with the 30 watt tube amp I am selling was that it just did not quite have enough drive for my 2805’s.

If you could find a reasonable tube integrated, like a Rogue Audio Cronus or Stereo 90 amp, I think you might really like that sound....

Regards, CHRIS

I recently heard a pair of 2805 being driven by a lovely old, but refurbed, Rogers A100. They sounded suprisingly good.

Have own all versions of Quads. Still like the 57s the best 'if' you can near field them and get them up a bit. Sound best not very toed in nor much tilted back. A bit like massive earphones but still the closest approach. :D
