HDTracks server not secure?
« on: 28 May 2010, 12:52 pm »
There is a report on the Asylum pc audio forum that the HDTracks computer has been hacked in the past resulting in user credit card info being compromised.
Can anyone confirm or deny this?

This was reported back eight months ago and is supposedly behind us.  I will attempt to get an update, but they sent an email alert out in October, then sent this at the end of the month (Oct 22, 2009)
HDtracks News
HDtracks has implemented new security features in our store. We are proud to now feature the TrustGuard Seal, as well as employing the same security software that secures some of the world's most sensitive websites including financial institutions, e-commerce websites, universities, government agencies and many other e-businesses. If you are paying by credit card, at check-out you will be asked to re-enter your credit card information. HDtracks does not store your credit card information, that information is kept for processing by our accredited credit card processing company only.

Obviously, like all online transactions you need to be careful and check your statement regularly.  Also, Paypal (what I use) is a viable option for those who don't want to give cc info online.

Here is their response (very quick, by the way):

Dear Mr. Brady,

Thank you for your email.  We appreciate your concern and we take the security of your information very seriously.  Since October of last year, we have replaced our servers and added new security features to the site such as TrustGuard (http://www.trust-guard.com/) and CIM.  With CIM only our accredited credit card processing partner, Authorize.net (http://authorize.net/), can securely store and access credit card numbers.  We have also installed additional security software that helps secure some of the world's most sensitive web sites.

In addition, we have also undergone a thorough security audit of the site and will continue to conduct regular security audits to ensure that all customer information is secure.

We hope this answers your question.  Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance.

Sincerely,
The HDtracks Team

I, for one, am satisfied, and hope that the audio asylum-type comments get a bit more educated and up-to-date.
