Thanks. Just updated. Why are some of the album covers missing now when they were previously displayed after I enabled the Bryston DB and Scraper? All my covers are stored as folder.jpg

I'm missing the field "Enable Music Scraper" under the field "Enable Bryston DB" (which is checked), instead there is a text saying "To enable Bryston API user space must use ext, Check Disk Information". I have an internal 500GB SSD set as scratch drive. What should I do?

It has nothing to do with the scratch drive, the user space in the internal flash is using fat32 rather then ext.  If you have any playlists or settings you want to backup you can do so by connecting to the network share labelled "user" and copying them to your computer.  perform a reset to factory or reset global settings and the user space should be updated to use ext and at this point you can copy your files back over if needed.

That fixed the problem, no idea why it was ext however. Thanks Chris!  :D

Because my previous post at another topic about my problem was little bit out of topic, again here my cry for help :!: :

After updating to 2.36, which seemed to be successful, after a next boot i received a error message 09. Even after disconnecting a flashdrive i used as scratch drive the error persisted. I see that my BDA-2 initially got a 48k LOCK so Linux seems to be starting. My system had 2.34 before the update and everything worked fine!
After the suggestion of James to disconnect all drives, i also opened my BDP-2 and disconnected the internal SSD too. But again error code 09. My display shows this:

BDP2 000246               ERROR 09
R03.0 2012-11-27               166

Please, any suggestions?
Regards, Gerard

I read in BDP-2 Firmware Update manual that possibly my CF-card got for some reason corrupted and I should re-flash the card.
Quote:
"If your BDP display shows Error 09, the internal flash card which contains the firmware may have
been corrupted. Manually flash the internal Compact Flash card to Manic Moose per this link.
http://support.bryston.com/downloads/BDP/BDP%20Manual%20Manic%20Moose%20Install.pdf"

Could that be the case?
Should I flash the file manicmoose2.img with Win32 Disk Imager on my Windows computer?
Or is there another way????
Hope to play music again tonight!!!

its the cf card, the system board or the serial cable (shown in the BDP-2 manual, goes from mainboard to the front of the unit).

I did already check the serial cable and it seems fine and firmly connected.

I think it is my CF-card
Should i re-flash my CF-card with the file "firmware20140430.bin" i used previously for upgrading to MM (but then through update firmware within BDP-2)?
Can i use the older Win32DiskImager for that on my Windows 10 computer?
And how can i change the fat32 format to ext needed for Bryston API user space to work?
Hope to hear from you soon!
Regards, Gerard

So I did the update seems to be working.... but in the artist view I only have my .flac files there it did not bring in my .wav files on the left hand side when I go back to default view I can see all my .wav files and they play just fine? Did I miss a setting or dose artist only work with flac? 2/3 of my music is wav.......

I also did the update (from 2.34 to 2.36) and what struck me is that when a list of music is played in random mode, it plays a lot of the same artist.
I mean with this that for example I have artist A, B, C and D in one list. First it plays a lot of artist A then a lot of music from artist C etc..
Before it played one song of A then another one of C and  then another one of D, with other words really at random, now it looks like this isn't the case anymore. I will try it again this afternoon.

Firmware update went without a hitch with BDP3.
I enabled Bryston DB and Artist Scraper but am not getting any Artist Scraper output. Is there something else I need to do?
Thanks

Chris,

I am repeatedly receiving the error "TIDAL, User not allowed on premium client" after updating the firmware.  By repeatedly, I mean that it appears nonstop on the screen.  Even after one errors times out or I click the x, multiple errors come back (please see image).

Any suggestions on how to stop this error from appearing?  To help with the diagnosis, I used to have a TIDAL account, but no longer.

Thank you

Well... I should have watched further in the What's New video.  I figured it out, after I saw the section on setting for the Media Player.

Media Player Settings
TIDAL
Erase user and password
Save

No more error messages.

Thank you

Hi Mark,

"Finally enjoying the BDP/BDA combination as a result of the new software interface.

One suggestion for Bryston, add some colour to the background screen! But really this is such an enhancement over the past when I would just give up trying to use the software.

Tell James, job well done and to keep up the good work."

I am getting a "Bryston DB File Crash" notice with the upgrade. Did I do something wrong when enabling Bryston Database?

Also, is this upgrade of limited value if all my files are either WAV or DSF? Does it enhance processing of files/functionality, not just viewing.

Thanks

Please place the BDP into service mode and email us the service id. Depending on how consistent the file folder structure is it may still work or pick up some of your library.

James, you may recall that I asked you how to save my playlist after the upgrade. Well I am happy to report that my playlists were saved after the 2.36 upgrade. Now I want to find out how I can get the artist displayed in the window.

If your using th random/shuffle option you may also want to turn on consume to prevent the BDP from replaying a track.

I have the Bdp3 and updated without problem :thumb:

Going through the menus I noticed the CPU load was at 86%-89%, I turned off the DLNA Client and CPU load dropped to 10,3%.
Dont know if having DLNA Client turned on have any impact on sound, but I rarely use it so I will keep it off.
The Bdp3 chassis temperature dropped significantly.

Consume is always on, so that isn't the problem.

Hi Al,

Is it locking up while rebuilding the Bryston DB?  Otherwise it might be best to give us a call or email me directly with the BDP in servce mode with the service ID.

I would encourage those having difficulties with the 2.36 update, to contact Chris via Service Mode. In my case, the DB Crash problem was not with the new firmware, but a glitch in how the update from Loony Loon to Manic Moose had been executed on my BDP2, which only revealed itself with this most recent firmware. Chris is a fantastic resource, and using Service Mode access and a follow-up call yesterday evening, got things working perfectly :thumb:

Chris,
Since upgrading from MM2.34 to 2.36 on my Bdp-1 I find that when in artist view I am not able to develop a playlist by selecting individual songs.  When the song title is touched it immediately begins to play without being entered in a playlist.  Also i find that I can no longer add music to my locally attached hard drive via a remote location by attempting to connect to the server.  I get a message window that states" there was a problem connecting to the server "Bryston-bdp-1.local"  The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection and try again."  I have done these things multiple times without success.  My bdp is configured in "man cave mode" with a local router not attached to the internet.  Please help.

My problem identified and described above remains.  Perhaps with more info a solution will be offered by someone.  I am able via my iPad to access the dash board, and media player via the bdp’s attached router.  I am able to select and play music.  What I can’t so is see my locally attached hard drive for purposes of adding additional music files.  Any ideas?

I've always added music files by powering down the BDP, detaching drive, and adding to drive thru desktop. Reattaching to BDP and power up.
Painless, fail-proof.
And gets me moving, off my butt.  :thumb:

did you enable the SMB service? it is required for having shares (attached drives) show up in your file system on pc/mac.
Also.you may wan to try the actual ip address, instead of the bryston-bdp-1.local.

Since my last post my network issue has been resolved by detaching my router, treating it as it was new and totally reconfiguring it.  Problem solved.  Now I find that the bdp interface no longer allows me to develop playlists as tracks are selected and the music playing functions on the top of the medial player page ie. Start stop, advance etc. are all non functional.  Now what, starting to get frustrated.

Can I check if there's was a time limit on upgrading from Loony Loon to Manic Moose ?

I've not been able to upgrade until now, but over the passed few days I've been following the instructions at
http://support.bryston.com/downloads/BDP/BDP%20Manic%20Moose%20Update.pdf
but after 5 attempts at different times of day it won't get any further than...
Checking Firmware Integrity
Upgrade Failed:initrd, 2

I have a BDP-1 (number 35) and my main pc is Windows 10.

I also tried to upgrade the firmware with a copy of the BIN on a usb stick, in case it was some kind of network issue, but that didn't work either (it gave no error and appeared to be working but when it got to the end of the process and it was still on Loony Loon).

It varies, but I just tried it again and it was less than 10 seconds...

...which made me wonder if whatever it seemed to be trying to connect to/download isn't available anymore.

I've tested the files and they appear to be fine, i suspect based on the age of the unit that something is up with either the CF Card (inside the unit, contains the firmware); either file system corruption (an issue with the early builds of the firmware) or just the age of the CF Card.  You may wish to consider that "if something goes wrong" instructions at the bottom of the PDF.

Ok, thanks Chris

I like to have a contingency, so can I check the process required should it not work...

First, can I burn MM to any CF card or does it need to be the one that came with the BDP ?

Assuming any card will do, if it were to fail, will putting the original card with LL on it and then run an update from it then return the firmware to LL ?

Assuming I have to use the original CF card, is there a copy of an LL image somewhere, or do I need to create one using the CF card before I do anything else ?

Cheers -

Any 4-8GB CF Card should work perfectly fine.  Putting the original card back in will allow the unit to continue to work.  You can use the winimager program to create a backup of your existing cf card.  The only thing i'd say to be worried about is static, but simple touching the system while it plugged into power should discharge you.

Chris

Just to let you know that the burning of a new CF and replacement in my BDP-1 went smoothly and early impressions of Manic Moose are great.

It took two hours to build the database (40,000 tracks, every album having a cover) but browsing is fine (using an iPad Pro) and playback faultless so far...

One thing that I can't do yet that I liked in MPAD (sadly had to drop recently as its not iOS11 compatible), was to type things in the search which worked like a filter, for example typing "2017" would reduce the album covers presented to just those from that year. If there's a way of doing that, do let me know !

Nice work again on the MM interface...

...my next job is to try to get BBC radio working  :D
