MAC OSX
1. Download the application and open the folder
2. Right-click the dsd2flac_gui.jar and select open
Requirements: The dsd2flac file and the dsd2flac_gui.jar file need to be in the same folder, Java needs to be installed, 64 bit OS
LINUX
1. Download the application and open the folder
2. Right-click the dsd2flac_gui.jar, select Properties/Permissions, place a check in the Execute box, and press close
3. Right-click the dsd2flac_gui.jar select Open with other application and select Jave

I'm having a crash problem... running dsf2flac in the shell produces the following output:

I have been using ISO2DSD and DSD2FLAC for several months.  I have a Naim NDX streamer, which can play DSD but the IOS app has not been recognizing the DSF files.  So I have been converting the DSF files to DoPFLAC rather than FLAC, and it has been working perfectly!  Thanks so much for your hard work.

PS  Is there a reason that the sampling rate is 176,400 rather than 192K?  I'm assuming so, and I don't have a clue whether there would be a sonic difference, but  . . .

Most DSD uses a base of 44,100hz.  This means that the sampling frequency is sequential multiples of 44,100: 88200, 176400, 352800, 705600, 1411200, 2822400 (DSD), 5644800 (Double-rate DSD)... and so on.

192khz is a multiple of a base 48,000hz: 48000 96000 192000.

Down-sampling from 2822400hz DSD to 176400hz PCM is very straightforward: divide by 16.  It is very important that the down- (or up-) sampled rate be an even division (or multiplication) of the original.

I can go into great detail as to why this is true, but dividing frequency by odd decimals (in this case 14.7) leads to quantization errors substantial enough to significantly affect sound quality.

While native 192khz is normally mathematically superior to 176.4khz, when the source is 282.24khz DSD, then 176.4khz FLAC will be far superior to 192khz FLAC.

DSD2FLAC is phenomenal

And I now understand why files folks have shared with me have this terrible crackle throughout. I did about half a dozen tests and found when converting DSF files and selecting FLAC/DOP it automatically converted at 176.4 even though 88.2 was selected.

The 88.2 conversions are perfectly clean. Totally quiet no crackling whatsoever. I thought this was an anomaly, but I was able to replicate across numerous folders of music.

This software really comes in handy when i bring files to my friend's house. He has one of those Schiit DACs and apparently their founder and lead designer do not believe in DSD; having yet to accept as their savior. Now I can head on over with these FLACs and play on his system.
