12AX7 choice
« on: 7 Dec 2010, 04:11 am »
Hi everybody,

Trying to decide between the Pavane Reference Series 12AX7 and the Genalax 12AX7 (reissue).  Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated. These will be used in an integrated amp.

Thanks

Lots of talk about both of these on the Asylum.  Here is one persons post on both of them:

Have both the GL reissue 12AX7's and the Pavane's; I also use these in the pre section of my Grant Fidelity A-534B (300B SET) integrated. I think they are both very good; the GL's may be a touch more 'vivid' and bold, with the Pavanes a slight bit smoother, but both are keepers IMHO.

We've been recommending the Genalex 12AX7 and have had only positive responses from our clients.

That person was me.  Maybe I'm crazy but the GL's seem to have a bit more gain in my setup; maybe that's why I hear them as more vivid.  I've been using the Pvanes the past few weeks, and not in any rush to pop my Mullard 10M's back in!!
