Hi Guys,

Feast Watson Satin Wipe On Poly.  Very easy to use.  I did 4 coats and lighted sanded between before each application.  The finish is much better than in my photos.  Just waiting on one tweeter to be sent to me and I'll let you know what they sound like.  Cheers Rod

Agreed, they look great!  Is this your first build?

Hi,

This is my second build.  I built a speaker kit from orca design and manufacturing.  See below link to the other speakers I built in birch ply.  I had a friend spray them and the look okay.  The Feast Watson oil is a much better finish applied to the American Walnut wood.

Just hoping they sound as good as they look.  Will post my impressions once I receive the replacement tweeter.

Hi Guys,

Just thought I'd let you know that I broke one of the tweeters whilst installing it in the speaker.  I've received a new one and been breaking the speakers in for a few days.  They are very good and give a true audiophile sound quality.  I've had many good speakers over the years including Salk Sound HT2's, HT3's (still have those babies) and Nuforce S9's.  I think they are equal to the HT2's and definitely better sounding than the Nuforce S9's.  Pretty hard to beat the HT3's.

$312 USD for the speaker kit.  I'm very happy and they fill my needs as I just can't use the HT3's for a few years due to my living arrangements.

Thanks for taking the time to read and make comments during the speaker build. Btw Huy Powell is a great guy to deal with.

Cheers Rod

Hi Guys,

I guess Huw from Human Speakers was impressed with my speaker build as I have my own page on his website.

http://www.humanspeakers.com/diy/81-built10.htm

I prefer to use a subwoofer with these speakers as the bass is a bit limited as I built them in a sealed cabinet.  They are an engaging speaker and I keep tapping my foot.  I have compared them with $2000au speakers bought direct from the builder in Melbourne and think they are comparable with them.

I think this is my last diy speakers for a while as they look and sound lovely.

I'm curious, why did you decide to take a ported design and make it sealed?  What is the QTS of the woofer and how has the sealed cabinet limited excursion?

Hi,

During my research I wasn't aware it was a ported design.  All the photographs and information I read didn't mention anything about it.  I guess I can add a port but at this stage the bass isn't a major issue as I'm using a salk sound rhythmic subwoofer.

What?

My mistake.  I thought he said it was a ported design.

Hi Guys,

These are the speakers I've compared the Human Speakers to which are available at a direct price.  They use a good quality seas tweeter and utopia 6inch mid/bass driver. The eos speaker has deeper bass even though the cabinet is smaller than mine.

Very nice work on these!  I've got some EPI 100W that I upgraded the tweeter on.  I need to mess with them again soon, great little speakers!
