Audio Nirvana
« on: 8 Jun 2021, 03:57 pm »
Hi!
I am a fan of Audio Nirvana fullrage from the American manufacturer.
Until now, I had a 10" ferrite classic speaker.
Can anyone tell, if there is a big difference in sound between ferrite and alnico speakers or classic and super speakers in practice?

By the way these drivers are made in China by Gui-Sound or Guide Sound Industries:

I have the Classic10Alnico that I purchased from a AC member:

I expected more ''alnico'' sound from the driver, also they are only 94dB SPL, I suspect your Classic10Ferrite are better for a OB panel due the higher SPL 96dB and if you use a small tube amp these 96dB are your best option on this brand, the Super models have a whizzer what is a drawback, being the Classic preferable.

However these Nirvana and many others hi priced FR drivers are obsolete in view of the new sensation or the moment F15 F18 from Lii Audio, which paper cones are very refined and looks similar to the Germany AER from Filip Keller.

My favorite is the F18 for an OB panel, no even need an enclosure.

I can only say that from the data presented the alnicos seem to be there for marketing purposes than performance.

The Ferrite Classic is one of the ANs i have heard. They have a resonant train from low in the midrange all the way up and the top end i find painful. I did make them better but they were still bad.

Horses for courses i guess.

What box do you have them in?

Those large format Lii Audio drivers add some diversity to wide-range driver options: I like the (very) high Qms, but the high Qes is unlikely to work well in my system. What makes their cones similar to AER? Have you listened to these drivers?

For medium format drivers, I think Lii flagship drivers may not be to my liking. Maybe I will get to listen to them one day.

The F15/18 obviously are not but the beige smaller cones looks similar and are very light.

It serves to highlight the treble freq as if it were a tweeter,
unfortunately it also has the beaming effect like tweeters.

From the Common Sense site>

Hi, slightly cold post but I spoke to David at Common Sense Audio about 60 days ago.  His website doesn't seem to indicate this but he has reduced the inventory to 15" ferrite and 8" ferrite.  Everything else is new old stock, no longer being built for AN.  I had built the 10" Alnico in a monitor cabinet a few years ago and have regretted selling them ever since.  I wanted to build another pair and was disappointed the 10" Alnico was gone.  I thought this might be constructive based on the AN references above.  Happy Holidays!
