Title: New Kid On the Block
Post by: denoxster on 15 Mar 2019, 04:26 pm
Hi guys,
Just signed up with the forum and want to say hello.
I have been audio enthusiast for a while but always on solid state side, now I want try and joining tube bandwagon.
I can definitely use some advise from experts here for tube preamp starter, budget around $1k used. My preferred sound signature liquid mid, smooth high with deep bass, not looking for visceral bass as I listen music on low volume.
Currently setup (modern) NuForce STA-200 / Emotiva UMC-200 and SVS Prime Towers, (vintage) Sansui AU-7500 with same speaker SVS Prime Towers, Chromecast and NAS as source.

Don Sachs SP14 variants come in prices near your budget and are well regarded.

Perhaps a better option for one coming from solid state in your budget is Schiit Freya ($700, has passive, JFET active, and tube active options).  Roll tubes later on if so moved, would still be within your budget.
