Tx102 Mk 3 Balance
« on: 9 Mar 2008, 04:50 pm »
I tried modifying my Tx102 TVC based pre-amp for RCA input and balanced output in order to be able to eliminate the phase splitter in my power amp. Looking at the balanced output with a 'scope shows that this is not balanced at anything other than low frequencies. By 10kHz the phase and amplitude of line and return is very different.

Am I overlooking something, or is this an application too far for the Tx102?

Hello!

The end of your post sums it up - it is too far for a TX102. To really do that phase splitter job would require a center tap on the secondary - and every tap would need it's own center tap I supose. Can't imagine the blank stare that I would have got if I'd asked for that! The TX102 output is differential - ie the difference between the top and bottom of the secondary represent the signal and in practice that would do a decent job at feeding a balanced amp input.

Thanskj!
