I'm another one that just can't get into Ornette C. I've got a couple of his first pressings that I need to get rid of....
Anyone want to pay me for a primo first "The Shape of Jazz to Come"--- a bargain at $25. Discogs at $50. I've tried, but I just don't like it.
Right- but that isn't the same thing as saying 'it's bad.' I'm not a big fan of Ornette either, but I recognize that he had talent and influenced a lot of players. That said, I can't tell uyou the last time I listened to any of his music. Granted, it isn't easy to listen to- but I don't think it was intended to be. Interesting to consider that that record was released the same year as Miles Davis' 'Kind of Blue' and Dave Brubeck's 'Time Out'.
Now, back to the original theme:
If you've never heard this, IMHO you owe it to yourself. This is the opposite of SOJTC- I have played this to people for over 40 years and a total of one listener (a jazz non-fan) didn't like it. If you
did have it when it came out (1975), your album jacket was probably in about the same condition as this one:
