Connecting Stream 9 in I2S to Topping D70
« on: 2 Feb 2022, 06:58 pm »
Hello,
I'm from France so I 'm not fluent.

I bought recently a Nuprime stream 9 expecially for using the I2S interface.

I try to connect my Topping D70 to my new Stream 9 with the I2S cable. It works partially.

The Topping D70 allows the configuration of the I2S interface.

On the D70 display, you can select
-   IIS phase standard or IIS phase rev,
-   IIS DSDR LRCK or IIS DSDR Data
-   DSD flag 14 or DSD flag 15

The stream 9 interface is fixed. I found the I2S pin define for the stream 9.

The correct configuration of the topping D70 should be :
-   IIS phase rev,
-   IIS DSDR Data
-   DSD flag 14
Only DSD conversion is operational. PCM 44,1, … is very noisy (on the Topping, 2,8 Mhz is on screen).
I try to keep DSD flag 14 and change the others parameters,  same result.

If I select DSD flag 15, only the PCM conversion is functional, DSD doesn’t lock (no sound and nothing on display on the Topping).

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to have PCM and DSD functional with in the same configuration ?

Regards

I answered your email but will reply here as well.  I2S over HDMI cable is not an industry standard.  PS Audio started it but initially they left some pins undefined. So when other brands started to follow and introduced new functionality, that's where the incompatibility happened.

Unless you find that the I2S pins completely match between two brands, you have to assume that they are not compatible.
