I'm an  old guy learning a new hobby. This could be dangerous!

  • To whom more was given more will be required.
    • Never go to a psychiatrist, adopt a straycat or dog. On the street they live only two years average.

Welcome!

Are you the serious type that can't just dabble in a new pastime?  If so, stick with headphones or build a 10ft x 16ft x 26ft insulated/dedicated room.  Next invest the next few years researching and at least $20,000 into audio.  If not, just visit the Cheap and Cheerful circle for ideas.  It's never been a better time to wade into the cheap and cheerful end of the pond.  Internet streaming has made board access to quality sound easy and inexpensive.  Your computer, a DAC with volume control, and a pair of active monitors or headphones is all you need.

Hi Guys,
I basically am not a dabbler. I tend to dive right into things.
Albeit after research/testing.
Hopefully moving into a new home soon. Market is crazy here in Illinois.
Plans are to build a HT room strictly for movies and then the den will be for listening w/ a tv just there for sports etc.
The den will be open to the kitchen. Don't know how this will work acoustically.
I'm sure I'll be asking a lot of questions as time moves on.
Looking forward to all the experience the community has to offer.
Lou.

When we built 16 years ago I got a man cave in the deal (audio in front, office in back).  The room is well insulated and properly shaped/sized which allows me to listen to what I want and when I want with minimum disruption.  IMO most way over invest in gear for the given room.
