Anyone here used Supertweeters with Spatials?
« on: 27 Jul 2024, 05:07 pm »
Curious what supertweeters people have tried and had success with?  I have an M4TM but i suppose this questions goes with any of Clayton's designs.

Any other options for placement other than 'balancing' or affixing on top of the speaker?  What were the most noticeable outcomes (soundstage width/depth, sense of realism, improved transparency, etc)?

I've been reading good things with Take-T/Taket but I know there are a lot of different options out there, from cheap to very expensive.

Please share!

Greetings!
I also own a pair of M4TM’s and have been considering a pair of super tweeters. The issue I have seen specifically with the Taket line is that it seems to me their sensitivity -efficiency- too low and maybe not compatible with our 93 db sensitivity.
I have also considered the Townsend super tweeters but it is the same. There is a line of ST’s which would work but forgot the brand. I will look into it and post it here. Our speakers are fantastic and I believe the TM option was very underestimated because it was offered in a very short period of time. That backfiring tweeter really makes a difference.

Check Aperion Audio. They have a line of super tweeters that are very musical and not that expensive.nand should work with our Spatials.

are you both referring to this?

https://www.aperionaudio.com/products/dst-dual-firing-amt-super-tweeter

published as working with 86 to 97db sensitivity; they have another model for higher sensitivity speakers

anyone given this one a try?

Aperion's new line of AMT supertweeters look very polished and thought-out.  However, $1000 for smaller one and $1600 for larger one is not exactly cheap IMO.
If it were me, I'd buy a pair of Heil AMT's (dipole) which happen to be on sale for $250/pair ($559 normally) including mounting brackets and screws.

To replicate the 12dB slope of Aperion, one just needs to add one capacitor and one inductor to each tweeter, after getting their values on crossover calculators such as this one:
https://www.v-cap.com/speaker-crossover-calculator.php#firstOrderCalculator

A resistor may or may not even be needed to match sensitivity since Heils' are 96dB sensitive depending on how precise the 96 and 93 (Spatial) dB ratings are.

This looks like a great DIY option, but would love to hear from someone who's actually tried it and can talk to it's SQ merits.

Haven't really read any unfavourable reviews of the Aperion and thankfully the used prices are a lot more friendlier than the new ones so it's still worth considering.

I am using the Heil AMT's, and I also own the much more expensive Beyma TPL-150H AMT.  In their native state, I prefer the sound quality of the dipole Heil AMT's over Beyma.  If a DIY solution can be made to open Beyma's back panel and make it dipole, it may be a wash, but I have not done so.

Sure, might be worth a try, but it's a planar driver and not dipole like Spatial.
