Featuring Maynard Ferguson at the peak of his trumpet powers in 1956.

I've been a Maynard fan for 43 years and I never knew about this album till tonite when I read about it on wiki.

It's just a latin/pop album of the day, but the sound is amazing with Maynard overpowering the whole band on every track.

It's on Spotify and Tidal.

Stanley Clarke: School Days '76

I like this better than 'Journey...' as well et. I don't think except for 'If This Bass...' & the mentioned recent trio releases I've listened to any vintage Stanley in 20 yrs. After our exchange I did some browsing at Azon, found a remastered 7 CD set of all his early Epic releases for $23+ with tax, so scooped it up. Still need to revisit his 1st, but will work my way thru them all shortly. Thanks

for the initial question, and I'd still say I think you'll like "If This Bass...", good to rediscover artists work.

Hey Arthur, thanks for the memories.

Those 2 Stanley Clarke albums plus Journey To Love were my early fusion jazz buys. Love them all. Dave Brubeck---Time Out was my first jazz album. Still sounds sweet some 50 years after buying it when I was in high school. Who says vinyl doesn't last?

Now, I have to add Marcus Miller, Brian Bromberg, Jaco Pastorius, Christian McBride, and Victor Wooten to the bass party. Just some of my favorites.

Miles Davis ‎– Kind Of Blue

In response to AD's prodding I was going to put on Modern Man, but the web is abuzz with the fact that today marks the 60th anniversary of the start of the KoB recording sessions. Reason enough to put it on.

Since I haven't played this under current system configuration was going to root out the MoFi version, but the Legacy pressing Jerome sent me a few years back was on the mantel, so its now spinning.

Damn, this sounds good!

Welcome Bob. As I've noted, one of the things I love about this thread is it reminds me of artists I like who I haven't listened to for a long time, due to the sheer volume of music out there. And of course many artists I've missed over the years. While not in the straight jazz or funk mode of bass work, one of my favorites for 40 years has been Eberhard Weber. Great classical/jazz fusion work, and of course like most all ECM artists the recording quality is as good as it gets. Keep 'em spinning sir.

Always a winner et. As you've mentioned it I'll have to pull out my '77 reissue 6 eye copy later and give it a spin. I can say a friend got the 45 version a couple of years back & it is excellent. On my wish list for the near future. Sounds like you are enjoying the new speakers. Have a great weekend.
