New for 2015

We're expanding our cabinet designs to include new shapes and sizes for 2015. Along with that will be some composite panel options - all made here in the USA. I hope to have some pictures by the end of February.  :thumb:

hi Rick,

just wondering, is it possible to make half array speakers for home theater? like say 4-5 top midranges with 4-5 ribbon tweeters? also a center with 4-5 mids and a tweeter? of course these would be used with 1 or more subs for bottom end.

good idea?

Short arrays come up from time to time. In a straight array a small amount of drivers really becomes problematic because of the narrow vertical coverage as well as loss of directivity into the midrange and lower frequencies. There are audiophiles that advocate for a line source that extends all the way to the ceiling and are critical of anything less than that. In reality you can get very good results with something shorter than that; however, 4-5 drivers won't work very well. You can do a curved CBT array with a smaller amount of drivers depending on how much coverage is needed plus the listening distance and output desired.

No doubt the wait will be worth it, but the suspense is a killer!

I have a couple of studio monitor pairs but I'm interested in the ottavo tower or a 3 way stand mount with accuton mid possibly. Hopefully something a little bigger than the tempesta monitors.

Ah - so you can still be listening in the meantime.  :)

We've had some delays due to a large yacht project and a personal family issue for my cabinetmaker; however, progress is being made. There are three designs in the works, two with curved cabinets and the other a floorstander.

The curved cabinets will employ some inlays for a customer who likes the style of a well-known Italian speaker company. This is a L/R monitor with a matching center channel, both using all Scan-Speak drivers (including the beryllium tweeter).

The 3-way floorstanders are a trapezoidal shape like the Ottavo but with dual 7"woofers and a smaller footprint. The combination of drivers will be unique to us and was suggested by my customer. Internally the cabinet will be quite different though with a mixture of bracing and damping materials including carbon fiber.

Will the modified version of the Ottavo be part of your line up, or is It a one off?

Yes it will be part of the lineup but it's not really a modified version of the Ottavo. Both are 3-way designs but they don't share any drivers in common.

We had a few delays but things are moving along better now. Keeping customers informed and not making excuses is a priority for me so I hate it when delivery time takes longer than I originally quoted. I take pride in the fact that with very few exceptions we have been consistent to deliver on time and with the quality that customers expect. I checked out the L/R/C cabinets today before they head to the finisher and look forward to seeing the final results. The floorstanders are in process and scheduled to go to the finisher the latter part of next week.

We have had past requests for custom curved cabinets using the method of stacked birch plywood. One problem with that method is there is a significant amount of wasted material. The exterior also doesn't veneer as well as MDF plus the assembly process has to be meticulous; otherwise, you will have quality control problems. Our curved cabinet process allows us to kerf cut the material to the shape we need and the resin bonding agent gives us a very solid composite wall. We also will offer optional carbon fiber structural bracing for all floorstanding cabinets as well as some monitors where possible.
