That looks awesome!  Similar layout to some of the old Dunlavy speakers, which are among my favorites of all time.

Yes, kind of a throwback design but with current driver technology.

Is the big woofer powered by its own plate amp?

No, but that certainly could be done. My customer wanted a fully passive design to drive with his tube amp.

Wowza! Rick, They're beautiful! How about some specs/dimensions (in one pic they look as tall as the door in back of it).

Is it time to sell my Tempestas???

Cheers,
KP

Any chance these may be available for a listen?

Let's see...1" dome tweeter, two 6" dome midranges, two 12" woofers, and one 30" sub to handle frequencies from 1-6 Hz?

I'll have full specs when the crossover design is finished. The cabinet is 49" tall and 14" deep. The bottom is 18.5" wide and this remains the same to 19" from the floor where it starts to taper (8" wide at the top).

1" dome, 2" dome mids, 6.5" midbasses, and 15" woofer.

IMO, it will need a muscular name.  Nothing dainty.  :thumb:

Yes, muscular, but with finesse as well. The dynamics of a higher sensitivity but with smooth tonality and detail without edginess.

I was thinking the same thing and came up with "The Arbiters."

1:  a person with power to decide a dispute :  judge

2:  a person or agency whose judgment or opinion is considered authoritative <arbiters of taste>

Not sure if you like it, but I'm pretty sure it hasn't been used for loudspeakers.

A few graphs of the "DC4"'s performance:

Vertical response curves starting on the tweeter axis (zero degrees). The red curve is +/- six degrees so a fifteen degree window will yield a very smooth response.

The impedance dips below 4 ohms but in places where it won't have a great impact on the amplifier. From 200hz and below it is an average of 5 ohms and not difficult to drive with a solid state or push-pull amp.

Very smooth response on and off-axis.

This is a nearfield curve of just the woofer. With the sealed box the rolloff is more gradual producing good deep bass.

Hi Rick,

How come the dip starting at ~13kHz is there?
