What do you think of "Bass Balls" for the name of a high power subwoofer amp?
-
better than blue balls...
kinda sounds silly IMHO, in all seriousness. But then bottlehead names their kits after SEX, and things like that.
-
No.
How about:
Thunder kick.
Sunami
Platectonic
Groove Slam
Slammy 2
Whack-A-Mole
Whack-Attack
Whomp-O-Matic
Kettle-Kicker
The Mac Daddy
The Smack Daddy
The Whack Daddy

I don't like Bass Balls, either. It immediately reminded me of this, for obvious reasons: http://www.ehx.com/products/bassballs (http://www.ehx.com/products/bassballs).
In keeping with your Cherry theme, how about just "Black Cherry?"
Paul
-
I'd call them Spectral Mass Drivers myself.

It would sound like you're a 16 year old "dude".

Nice......yes maybe keep it inline with your cuurent theme. "The pit" could be another candidate in keeping with your cherry theme. A cherry has a pit and pits are low.
-
We can do better... Combined with the Cherry theme you'll have the FBI at your door.
"Grip" "Gripper"
"The DAC Grip has proven to..."
Sharen suggests "The Pillar" and asks if it looks like a pillar?
Dan suggests "The Dan"
Oscar and Ollie prefer something with a "Woof" theme, of course.
What's Rave without bass? How 'bout "Rave" - Our royalty payments will be minimal.
Is there some local theme related to the steel industry?
Animal theme? Is Rhino taken?
Glad I'm not in marketing/advertising
-M
-
The Deep Cherry or Deep Cherry Sr.
(Wanted to say "Seismic Cherry", but there is an existing Seismic subwoofer driver manufacturer)
Steve
-

If he wants to keep with the 'Cherry' theme, why not 'Cherry Bomb'?
But yeah, 'Bass Balls' doesn't cut it....
-
Unless you're shaping them subs into a circular ball Tommy, I don't know why you'd label them as something they are not. If on other hand you're planning on making Bing Cherry Balls, then swing with it.
Cheers,
Robin

What started as a whim has become an enjoyable thread...
How about "Category 5" or even "Category 6"... This goes with the "Our amps go to 11" theme.
I like the Cherry related ones, too. Thanks, Mike, for getting the dogs to vote.

How about "Thumper" and you can pay Disney royalties and emblazon this right on the woofer dustcap

Except that there is no woofer dustcap on an amplifier.
Steve
-
Ooops - I thought it was integrated with the sub itself. Then just emblazon it on the top cover (I love simple solutions).
-
When you purchase the amp you get a free pair of these....

The Drop or Cherry Drop
Infrasonic
Microseism (a faint earth tremor caused by natural phenomena, such as winds and ocean waves)
Profundo
Timpano (or Timpani if stereo bass amp)
Ride
I also like Cherry Bomb or Cherry Bass...
-
Simoons "Cherry Bomb" gets my vote.
-
Keep the Cherry theme, Tommy. Even DA4800A has been quite off the line.
How about "Cherry Diver"? I like Cherry Bomb too.
How about short list some names and start a vote?
-
Cherry Low is nice too....
-
How about "Lowshino Cherry"!
Best,
Ed

You're not Cherry Amplifier company, your Digital Amplifier Company, I think it's good to have a theme, but to many amps with the same name is no good. How about a "Plum"? "Plum the depths of your sound". Still a stone fruit, so staying in the same vein, but a different fruit to help differentiate it as a product from the "Cherry".
-
How about a "Plum"? "Plum the depths of your sound".
Plumb the depths of your sound?
Steve
-
Plumb the depths of your sound? Steve
Well, I was going for the homonym between Plum (fruit) and Plumb (measuring depth).
I suppose the tag line could be... "Plumb the depths of your sound with our Plum amplifier".
Like "Cherry", "Plum" connotes good-stuff...
–adjective
11. extremely desirable, rewarding, profitable, or the like: a plum job in the foreign service. (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/plum)
and like a cherry, a plum is a stone fruit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stone_fruit).
So with "Plum" we've got a good play on words for a bass amp, and a name that stays in-line with, yet sufficiently differentiates itself from, established models.
-
Famous quote from my son when was 3 and eating a cherry:
"Why do they put them darn nuts in 'em"
OK back to the sub amp- Tommy, what makes this sub amp a sub amp?
I'd love to see one of your amps w/ a level control/adjustable low pass/ maybe parametric eq - The goodies one usually thinks of for sub amps.
-Mike
-
Or are there things you are thinking of, circuitry-wise, that allow for better bass (hard to believe that's possible relative to your full-range amps) since it won't have to go high up in frequency?
Like, can you change the modulation frequency to boost damping etc. (I think you told me once that there is some trade-off between frequency vs. power consumption vs. quality)
I have no idea what I'm talking about, obviously
Wow, giddy on a 75 degree friday!

Thanks Tommy, and you're welcome.

getting away from male parts, how about Badonka-donk? get the amp that'll get that backfield in motion ... :green:
-
We like this one!
How about ThunderPitt? "our next batch of ThunderPitts should be out in a short time." hmmm, has a nice ring to it, don't you think?

I think Barry nailed it with the Plum name. That is about as good as you can get, plus the play on words.

Yeah, probably so. My thinking was that these amps put out lots of bass, but it is extremely tight. So I understand. A lot of thunder, and a Cherry Pit. Oh, well, nice try. it does have a good marketting ring though. "We don't have any ThunderPitts in stock at the moment."

Plumb
Cherry Bass
Cherry Bomb
These have my vote :thumb:
Any info on the specs of said bass amp?

We have decided to stay full-range... Target power output is 1000W into 4 ohms. Thanks.

Wow! I betcha that's probably 500 in to 8 ohms. Great amp for a Musicans concert, for a great amp.

Came across this thread while searching for something else....
I guess the MEGAschino could be used as a sub amp, and it will be by a new customer that is planning to buy passive subs just to use MEGAschino to drive them! He has a pair of MEGAschino MONOs, and he's thrilled with the performance full-range.
MEGAschino is awesome for bass. It's DC coupled, so no bass phase shift and response down to 0Hz.
Oh, and POWER.... The MEGAschino can output up to 2kW into 2Ω!
SNR is 120dB, and FULL RANGE (150kHz BW).
Here's the growing MEGAschino introduction thread:

A "bushel" of cherries is called a "Lug". I bet no ones called an amp a "Lug" before!
-
How about the "MEGA-Lug"? That sounds kickass!
-
Black Cherry MEGA-LUG? Cherry Lug-A-Tron?
-
How about the Cherry Power Purge?
Cherry Juice?

Chug-a-Lug

Ok guys, don't like base balls either. Again, make it simple ang graphic, bass bottom. You can't get any lower than that. lol.

Cherry Bottom Bass-ment (TM) ?

Don't need no stinking subwoofer!! And quit buying speakers with 6 1/2" mid woofers a great start. Find a full range floor stander that goes down to the 30Hz range faithfully and save the trouble of trying to match the damn thing. I am looking at the Tekton line-up to find "bass balls" like my VMPS Super Tower R monsters deliver. I love deep bass too but not at the cost of having one or two subs strewn about the room.
-
Keep it simple. Cherry Sub Amp. I agree the main speaker should go down to a minimum of 28HZ or so as the piano does. However I like Organ music very much. So for me the speaker needs to -3db at 18hz.
I cannot see buying a speaker that does not go at a minimum of 30hz to a max of 18hz. That would be accurate in phase bass. As long as your room can support low bass your in if not no bass for you
