6moons review of the Clari-T...
« on: 26 May 2005, 09:16 pm »
...will be posted any day now!  :D

Michael Lavorgna finished reviewing a stock Clari-T (with subwoofer output jacks), and a modded version w/o a volume control.  Srajan will get his hands on the custom Clari-T next (for those Druids   ).

Also, Fo of Positive Feedback Online will be reviewing a stock Clari-T (w/o volume control) with a pair of the new Omega Mini-ME speakers  :P

I dont need a review to tell me how kick-ass your amp is Vinnie.

Today was a fun day that would have made you proud.  I go in hand with nothing more than a dac, your amp, and cables in hand.  I wondered just how well this amp would mate with power hungry monsters.  It was up against up to 15g's worth of gear from all sorts of audiophile lavished/approved names.......  and it WHIPPED them all ...  not even a close match....

Tell us more!  How far did everyone's jaw drop?  What kind of speakers was the Clari-T taking on? What about the source feeding the DAC? Details please.

I need speakers.  I have been going insane waiting for Srajan's review of the Druid's, and now I find out he is waiting for the Clari-T.  I am also waiting on news of the new Omega hemp drivers.  Oh well, a couple more weeks won't kill me I guess.

there's an AC member located in Los Angeles by the name of Sotantar who owns Zu Druids. you might consider PM'g him to see if he might allow you to demo his Druids at his place.

dmason:

i have to agree with the review at this point in my clarit career - about 5 months - tubes make a nice difference when used in a preamp with the  clarit that im experiencing - it does take it to a different level in terms of tonal rightness- i wish vinni would consider adding a tube preamp stage to the clarit.

smargo

Tubes are almost always good...the ClariT is just the only SS amp that doesnt NEED tubes. I think the challenge is to find a SE circuit that has a low enough noise floor. This concern was underscored in the review.

Congrats Vinnie, looks like a great review, on a piece that is making lots of the "little" folks happy too!

Glad to see more positive words, for all your hard work.

Mad Dog, MarC,

There once was a time when I publically announced such days with great detail.  I realized that it usually spawned off more trouble than anything else. I will be MORE than happy to give you those details in a private message!

The reason for my excitement is due to this being more of an audio revelation for me.  I've seen so many excellent (and some not so excellent) products come and go. The Clari-T, while far from perfect, simply does things that goes against everything I have learned in this hobby.

This piece is the type that will be controversal, for some time. There is no cool glowing / rare metal face plate.  No hefty heat sinks, fancy screens, a renouned name and a heavy price tag.  It is a simple little box that you can fit in your lunch box.  Sometimes, no matter how good something is, if it doesnt fit the status quo...  it will simply be overlooked.  I just hope that more will come to bring themselves to at least experience such a product.  No, it may not be for them or even work for them..,but it gives one insight to the realm of the 'simpler is better' approach.

As always - it may not be for everyone and it seems to require specific speakers to get the most out of it.  It is a challenge that many wont be up to facing. But I can tell you right now, I am just as happy with my power hungry speakers with this Clari-T as I have been with many beastly high current amps!

Hey, did you readers notice the line that said Vinnie quit his day job? Is this true, Vinnie? I feel somewhat responsible, if that is the case. Esp. since I have one of the first 10 Clari-Ts.

BTW, I have had mine for 6 months and it prob. has 500 hrs. on it. It is still getting better.  Sending it in next week for the upgrade treatment.

Hi Seminarian,

I quit my day job when I started Red Wine Audio in February 2005.  This is the ONLY job that I have now...can't get more dedicated than that

Send your Clari-T on over for some serious upgrades  :P

All,

Thanks for all your kind words about the review.  Michael did a fantastic job and it was a real pleasure to read!

I made sure to "give props" to y'all in my manufacturer's comments   :

"It is important that I mention how much I appreciate all the support that I have received from my customers, members of the Internet audio forums, family and friends! Without their big push, I'd probably still be in my office cubicle, thinking about what I want to tweak when I come home. Thanks again!"

...And a big thanks to everyone who voted for me to have a circle here on Audiocircle and giving me a chance to show that I plan to keep it VERY active!  I LOVE it here and greatly appreciate all your interest, questions, and support.  :thankyou:

Ok...back to work for me   (those damn Emoticons are addicitive!)

I thought you'd be saying ". . .and I'd like to thank my 4th customer, because they had a funny line in an e-mail, and a big shout out to. . ." like the Oscars.

That's sure true about many audioheads not being committed enough to build an optimized System - the first batch of reviewers couldn't even do it.

Word to the herd - this is only the beginning.  Vinnie, you ever managed a staff?

Vinnie:
Congrats! I foresee double shifts in your future.
Too bad the reviewer used the 6SN7 pre. I'm driving my modded T-Amp with a Transcendent Sound Grounded Grid (12AU7's) and only hear an almost inaudible hiss at max volume, nothing at sane levels. I, too, like what a tube pre (properly matched) does for the Tripath chip.

Regards,
Larry Welsh

Hi Vinnie,

Many congrats on the 6moons review. Now this is a great review and he nailed it on so many points. I haven't turned on the tubes since Montreal.

Hemp floorstanders are about 1 hour old and they are singing through the Lotus/Monica

Many thanks,
Louie
