dynavector or benz micro?
« on: 15 Oct 2010, 08:55 am »
hello,

i'm looking forward to purchase a wta.:)

i need help to decide between a dynavector karat 17 d3 or a benz micro glider s l.

i have a relaive small room 3 by 4m possibly.
i think i need tight upper bass but good low mids
sub under 40 can be strong, i like an airy treble...

thx

I own a new Rega P5 with the Benz Glider med output. AND a new to me Kuzma Stogi S with a new Dynavector 17D3.
The Benz is smooth (hence 'glider')
The Dynavector is detailed
They both are smooth and detailed, but the most outstanding detail for each etc.
The biggest difference is actually the physical difference in how the stylus sticks out. The Benz Glider is waaay out there freely waiting to be snapped of at the tiniest accident.
The Dynavector 17D3 is nearly hidden, It is hard to set up because you can barely see the stylus under the cart!
So if breaking off the $1000 stylus tip matters...
I really like them both. So it is a very hard choice.
IF I could have only one?
I would choose the Dynavector 17D3 because of the stylus sticking out so far on the Glider

i'm a stylus killer!
so +1 for the dynavector.
but i like the smooth thing on the glider for the tops.
the bass should be more on the controlled side than full.

Hi,
I've not heard a Benz in a long time, so I'll defer to Elizabeth on that one.  The Dynavector will go very nice on a WT, that's for sure, and with the bass control you are looking for.  The only complaint I've ever read lodged against the 17D are by people who I think haven't set it up correctly.
Which table were you thinking of getting?

Should be a great combo!
and thanks for the clarification....on an earlier thread someone was using wta to refer to the old classic arm....
enjoy!

What phono stage are you using ? Consider the synergy with the proposed cart. Have fun deciding.

I haven't heard a decca in a long time, though I'm sure it would be a good fit. Mr Firebaugh has tons of cartridges, so I've been told.  The EMT's are especially good as well, and that I've heard.
