Rake Angle
« on: 25 Oct 2024, 04:27 pm »
Anyone spend much time adjusting rake angle of their speakers? I think my speakers sound better with the speakers base being completely level, (front to back and side to side) wouldn’t this be ideal for speakers like the NX series with slanted baffle? I am assuming the reward slant is for time alignment?

Don't know what speakers you have? But traditional speakers when you change the rake angle i.e. tilt the front up and the back down. When you do this you will get more height on the image they project, singers are not 4 foot or whatever height your speakers are. If you notice a lot of speakers produce sound it their own height, some speakers can give you height and for the ones that can't give you height just tilt the speakers up a few degrees and you get more height information. I don't want the sound coming from my speakers to sound like the singers are on their knees.

It also changes the tonal balance. I have the NX Oticas, so the tweeters are a bit higher than my ears, the center of the tweeters are about 8.5 inches above my ears at seating position.

Okay, I guess you don't have a height problem.

The NX Oticas were designed with a reward slanted baffle, unless I bent mine when I built them.  :icon_lol:

Actually the baffles aren’t slanted, but the the side panels are. Can someone explain the advantages for this? I owned a few other models that incorporated this rearward angle.

I am thinking that if you ask Danny why the Otica is slanted, he will tell you something like “because it looks good”.  I do not think there was a measurement or design goal of finding the perfect rearward angle.

I actually put feet in the back of mine to remove the backwards tilt.

What do you think you gained from doing that?

Thanks, I have plenty of detail, but I might experiment more with rake angle.
