New Bryston BD Series amps
« on: 18 Sep 2024, 01:33 pm »
Hello,

While browsing the website I noticed the new BD series Class D amps posted, the BD-225 and BD-325. I am curious what the US and Canadian pricing is for these? The website is not complete as the manual links are not active so I just wanted to confirm if they are indeed available up to  channels as the downloadable brochure states and if so what's the significance of the BD-225 and BD-325 names? On the surface that to me suggests a 2 and 3 channel model however if the amp is available from 1 to 6 channels why aren't those variations listed on either the website or the brochure where only the 225 and 325 are singled out? Is it that the amp modules themselves come in 2 flavors, a 225 watt version and a 325 watt version thus you could configure up to 6 channels in various combinations of 225 watt and 325 watt flavors, like say 325 amps for front 3 channels and say 2 channels of 225 watts for 2 surround channels for a total of 5 channels? Also can these amps be ordered just as the standard analog amps in 17", 19" faceplates, handles or no handles and different color LED's and different color faceplates? Finally are there more pictures available so we can see how the front faceplate may change when various different channel modules are on board as well as some pictures of the top, sides and definitely the back?

Thanks very much

Hi Rod,

Here is the announcement PDF.
You can not mix the different power modules.

Thanks

What is the US/Canadian MSRP pricing for all of the various combinations and will there be options for various colors, faceplates sizes and LED colors?

Hi Rod

Yes same options on faceplates, sizes and colors etc.
Prices are about 1/2 the price of our Cubed amplifiers of similar power.

Thanks

Finally, what's the warranty on these, I don't seem to see it mentioned on the website or in the online brochure so just in case it's not 20 years like the analog gear but rather 5 like your digital gear, I just wanted to ask.

Yes 5 years due to the digital circuitry- we will probably extend it to 10 once we have some history.

I’ve been using Class D’s since 2011.  Been very happy with the sound, and they don’t use nearly as much electricity, or generate much heat.

Hi Folks - I am told that the new Bryston Class D amplifiers will be the GO-TO amplifier in these small studio ATMOS systems.

James,
I'd like to encourage Bryston to please loan a BD-225 review sample to ASR

I wouldn’t if I were you, they’ll just compare your amps to some cheap smsl/topping amps, then proceed to butcher your pricing.

Regarding the modularity of these new amps, if one orders say a 4 channel initially, can it be upgraded to 5 or 6 channels later on? If so how does that work, does the amp have to be shipped back to Bryston or maybe just brought to the dealer?

Unfortunately Mafico didn't have any at the DAE...
Any news on when they are available? I am VERY interested!

How do they compare to the B3 series when it comes to sound?
And will the power button change to the nice and solid Bryston signature one?

HI Rod

It can be but it would have to come back to the factory as the rear plate has to change.

Why does the Cubes win?
What's the sonic difference?
There are no reviews yet. Interesting though.

And why chosen for a digital variant instead of a non- digital one like many Class D manufacturers produce? (because Class D doesn't stand for Digital as many people tend to believe)

as I read (https://support.bryston.com/downloads/Brochures/Bryston_Class_D_Brochure.pdf):
Quote
The audio signal is first converted into a digital format by an ana-
log-to-digital converter (ADC). The digital signal is then pro-
cessed by a digital signal processor (DSP), which generates the
PWM signal based on the input signal.

When can we get a good look i e. nice images of the front and back of these units with varying channel counts so we can see how the various channel configurations look? The website manual link doesn't work and I've been unable to find other pics online.

Hi Rod - still working on the cosmetics - should be soon - the front panel will look like the below and channels will be from 1-6 in a single chassis.

Thanks

For LED's, will units with 2 or more channels have a separate front LED for each channel or is there only ever going to be a single LED regardless of channel count?

When do you anticipate customers to be able to start placing orders? If you are still working on cosmetics it sounds like the amps are still a little ways out until full production starts??
