I actually used to lay them (subs) on their sides exactly how you describe and have considered it.  Sadly, I spent some cash on custom granite fabrication for the bottom and top of the subs.  Its the only thing keeping me from trying it.  Pride.  It sucks.  I think ill pull the granite, and tuen them as you suggest and see what it looks like and how I can fabricate a new angled brace ontop for the center.   It gives me a new project.  Thanks for taking a fledgling idea to a new level of pssibility.  Lets see what happens!

Yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing this. I think you'll like this approach better. Also, play some of your favorite music out of the center channel only and tell us how it sounds compared to the mains only.

Today I was able to do a little measuring and able to listen to the center a bit more.  Spent most of my day taking measurements and re-integrating my subs since the room was moved around.  With my processor the way I listened to the center speaker mono was by putting it all stereo mode.  That plays all the speakers with whatever music is playing.  Then I turned off all the other amplifiers except the monoblock for the center.  As a stand alone it sounds fine.  Its a different experience for sure.  For 1.)  Its mono.  Music just doesnt sound right to me this way.  2.) The way it disperses sound is different.  From the orientation and the perceived sound lobing.  I suppose if you had two of them lined up across the room it would sound fine.  Although I am not convinced it would be as good as just building a pair of Oticas.  It does offer every detail and depth that the oticas offer.  Just presents it slightly different.

This is the upper frequency graph of just the NX Center response in my room.  I measured from 40hz to 13000hz and applied 1/6th smoothing.

Here is the lower frequency end of the same graph.  In my room the NX-Center has decent output down to 60-70 hz or so.  I use my processor to low pass at 80hz anyway so this is a fine response for my room.

I have to tweak the phase (distance) and PEQs on my sealed Rythmik 15’s and adjust all the sub levels since stuff got moved around.  That will take a while to get just right to my liking but its close.  I really have not had much time with the NX-center and no time at all with all the levels and subs adjusted.
