RISE TO FALL - The Fifth Dimension

They remind of Denmark's early Mercenary.

Hey, I just purchased this album and really like it, "At Storm's Edge" Aetherian (2023).

Freaken Opeth gold with BP.  At times I'll park on Opeth for the entire night.

Lately got a lot of time logged with "In Mourning" and their live works.  One of many reasons why metal is such a great (if not the greatest) music genre.  Terrific soundscapes at times with this band and the balance of sounds generated is amazing.

I have never heard In Mourning "Live In Valley Sound Studio" cd.
Do you enjoy that "newer" stripped down version of Opeth, I'm reffering to their last 4 albums?I don't wanna sound narrow minded, but I can't listen to any of their latest work.

Of their latest, tamer albums I do like Heritage and Sorceress.  Sweden's Mikael Åkerfeldt has always been an amazing vocalist, guitarist, and primary songwriter for Opeth and I think it's just a progression (evolution).  Mikael is not a follower, so this newer, calmer progressive side is what it is... a smoother, more coherent path it seems is his current endeavor.  I very much prefer the darker side of the band and maybe, just maybe he'll veer toward that direction again.  Wait and see.  I have all their CDs so I'm good.  Opeth remains in my top three bands of all time.

Let's hope, Mikael will have a change of heart and will go back to his metal roots.I remember reading the interview with him, right before releasing "Deliverance" in 2002.He wanted to attatch 2003's "Damnation" album, as bonus cd and proof it, that Opeth was capable of writing not only death metal, but their label at the time, Music For Nations/Koch Records, did not allow it, so it was released a year later.Still have that interview in BW&BK magazine.

What's your take on early Slayer albums?
