Title: Johnny Dumbass is doing it again.
Post by: thunderbrick on 19 Aug 2014, 04:28 am
Flipping the bird to the Redskins bench?

I can just see a bunch of D linemen licking their chops and begging their coach "PLEASE, COACH!!  Let ME be the one who plants him head-first at the 50-yard line!
PLEASE COACH!"

Cleveland is the burial ground of young quarterbacks.  JF needed to go to a strong coach and sit for a year or two.  But to go to the Browns... that's just a shame.

He's a rich, spoiled kid who's had everything go his way. He's gotta few years ahead of him to grow up. He does seem to be eating some humble pie since he's been in the NFL.

In the article that follows the one cited above, "Johnny Manziel and Wasted Opportunity", there's this nugget:
" If Manziel manages to win the starting quarterback job between now and the season opener against Pittsburgh, it will be either because Brian Hoyer gets hurt or aliens steal him from the planet."

What an epic self destruction this year. A complete train wreck!! After beating on his girlfriend it appears the Browns will release him.  Previously sneaking off to Las Vegas wearing a wig to gamble .  The list goes on.
He played poorly to average on the field as well. I guess some team will pick him up to be a backup.

If, as expected, he gets dumped, a lot of D-linemen are gonna be disappointed.  Tell me they don't have a bounty on his scrawny little ass.

+1 - it's a shame when someone has talent and either wastes most of it or just throws it all away. I suspect if he doesn't get turned around this coming season, he's got a good chance of not playing in the NFL.

If he does turn it around (serious doubts on that...) thank God it won't be in Cleveland!

I am a long suffering Browns fan and how ridiculous that Johnny gets the coverage he does...

Let's see...

Otto Graham -  four championships in the AAFC and three NFL titles. He was MVP of the AAFC three times.  5-time Pro Bowler & 7-time First-Team All-Pro.  Was a true team guy and NEVER gave Paul Brown a problem.

Johnny M. - no titles, not MVP, no pro bowler, no nothing.  Oh wait... riding a water swan in LV, wearing a wig in LV, giving the "money sign", etc, etc, etc...

Good f**king riddance.

I doubt if any NFL team picks him up, even those desperate for a QB.  If he's lucky he get a shot in Canada.  This guy is a serious addict.

Nope, Jerry doesn't call the shots by himself these days, and the other responsible parties don't want the headache or distraction.

I see a promising career in Arena Football and selling used cars for Johnny M.

Evidently didn't get (or didn't take in) good mentoring.  So easy for young super jocks in this age to get big headed (even everyday teens can go through it).

Getting passed by Jerry and having to go to Cleveland (brrrr!) probably let the air out of his balloon.  Lost hope and self destructed.  It's not like he needs the money if you didn't know.

Jerry calls the shots. Period. He's just listening to other people a bit better for the last couple of years.

Who do you think OK'ed bringing in Greg Hardy? Jason Garret?

Garrett.  Yes, Garrett was on board.  Hardy offered the possibility of huge return for minimal risk.  Those of us that follow this team daily think personnel decisions are done with 4 people... Stephen Jones, Will McCray, Jerry Jones, and Jason Garrett.  No one vote swings these type decisions (but I'll agree that one may break the tie).
Of course, you can persist in your opinion.  What about a small, friendly wager??? Johnny to Dallas? Texas actually makes some decent wine.  How about a bottle of Texas red for a bottle of California Central Coast?

...Just saw where his agent dropped him.  When an agent won't touch you, you've fallen pretty low.

Yeah, ESPN's running a crawl that Dallas ruled him out at a meeting last year before his latest alleged domestic violence case.

I've said for many years that Dallas is doomed to mediocrity until the Owner grows a pair and fires his GM.  :green: Anyway, my main focus was that the Raiders have changed from their old ways and that there was little/no chance of him going there - Dallas would be more likely.

Wager a bottle of wine on something more interesting. Don't give a hang about Johnny Football. I like to pick on Cowboy fans though. One of my best friends is a big fan and hates Romo. He always wanted Tebow or Manziel to "come to the rescue" and I would just laugh at him.

Those of us that have been fans long before the Jones era (I saw Meredith play against Unitas in the Cotton Bowl :o)have been hoping for decades that Jerry steps down.  However, most of us are just happy to see him take a step back behind the scenes. Of course, don't get between Jerry and a camera, a microphone, a hooker, or a glass of fine scotch.  Apparently, he is not the buffoon in private that he appears to be in public.

If he's dumb enough to blow a NFL career, he's plenty dumb enough (like so many other young athletes) to blow a fortune.   :duh:

Johnny has been in self-destruct mode since before leaving college.

The NFL owners need to make a policy - official or unofficial - that when there is a player with substance and/or domestic issues that gets released, the other teams agree NOT to sign him for a given period of time, say 12mo. Some sort of agreed upon time frame. Otherwise, it's essentially a form of enabling. If these guys think they can beat women, do drugs, drink excessively, etc, still knowing they'll get chance after chance in the NFL, that only makes things worse.

Even if they wanted to, the players union would never let it happen.  They have a labor agreement.

Thats why I say "unofficial" if necessary...they can simply make a gentlemen's agreement not to sign people like that. There are character clauses on NFL contracts, as well. The players aren't guaranteed the right to a team...it's up to the owners if they choose to sign a player or not. Continuing to give people like this millions of dollars is not good for anyone.

Okay. You guys are right. Lets just keep enabling them....nothing wrong with a few more women getting beat up, right? After all, business is what's most important.

Heck, I may even enter the bidding war myself for Johnny next year  :thumb:

Don't get me wrong - I wish they could do things like you suggest. The Courts keep saying otherwise. Don't get me going on Court rulings......

Proving collusion would be interesting.  If the purpose is a waiting period to see if the jerks get their act together, I think that's reasonable, and damned hard to prove.

OTOH, if it's collusion to keep players' salaries down, that would be a slam dunk.

Well, my point isn't whether it's feasible as the rules are currently, but that something should be done. No matter how they do it, it's the right thing to do assuming that the NFL truly gives a crap about player safety, health, and the well-being of loved ones (particularly women and children).

As a rule, I generally always support the players when it comes to negotiations. You cannot put a price on health, and if a player chases the top dollar, I say all the power to them. Even with insurance policies, you have no way to know if you're going to walk off that field or away from the game in one piece - literally or figuratively. And I actually feel that my stance on Manziel-type issues are ALSO in the player's best interest ultimately. The LAST thing someone like Johnny needs is another million dollar contract after the Browns cut him.

At this point we should have pity for the guy. He's obviously out of control and on a downward spiral. I don't think any NFL team will touch him at this point. What will he do when he realizes that?

Apparently he's refused multiple attempts by family, team, and agent to get him help. They are all washing their hands of him....

So the multi-millionaire and billionaire owners could rake in more piles of dough at the expense of players' health and their abilities?

Always follow the money to find the answers in this life.  Owner profits from fuel these ridiculously high athlete salaries and a super jock culture.  That culture breeds immature behavior and greed in all the parties involved.  Owners should treat players like family, not temporary assets to be exploited.  The NFL should take better care of current and retired players, and for their own good divert salaries into research, better gear, health insurance, and education to players/parents early on (before junior high) of the risks involved.  Salaries should be capped at $100,000/year (or lower) which IME is plenty for a part-time job and a generous pension should be established.  Owners should be forced to buy their own current/future stadiums or else communities should own the teams (like Green Bay).

None of this will happen without fan support (or reduced support).  Stop buying expensive jerseys, tickets, and TV subscriptions.  Stop voting for new taxes to build more stadiums or bought and paid for politicians that support building more stadiums.

Rant off.

:rotflmao:  They make more than that in college! IIRC, Cam Newton's dad was busted asking $175K for Cam to play at ?Tennessee?  and was told to take a hike.  Apparently, Auburn wasn't as picky.

OK, pay NFL players a maximum of $30,000/year for the part-time "jobs" they have and charge professional teams a huge tax to exist.

And what I said about NFL teams/owners should also be applied to Division I colleges.  There is an imbalance between what players and colleges get from their performances and huge variance in the educations provided.  If you're not smart enough to be in college, then you can't play in college, simple.  I'm sorry, but the whole concept of a college education shouldn't be shamed for the sake of semi-professional athletics by coming up with pass through methods or laughable fields of study that enable the poorly qualified students to play for the college.  A college player should be a legitimate college student, period.  The premise of getting a good college education in trade for representing the school by playing a sport is a very fair deal for the student.  Pushing the student too hard to perform as an athlete or lowering the expectations of earning a "real" college degree has made a mockery of college athletics and the colleges.

Do I have to get tougher yet on jocks that make more than the President?

Yeah, and corporations shouldn't be greedy, and politicians should have the best interest of the people at heart, and everyone should voluntarily pay their share of taxes, and we should all just follow the Golden Rule... but that's not the world we live in.

Guys seems to be a waste of plasma.  He won the lottery when he got signed IMO.  He was a great college QB but his skills don't seem to scale up to the NFL.  He should have cashed a few years of undeserved paychecks before quietly retiring.  Instead his lack of character seems to have torpedoed any chance he had of staying on an NFL roster.  He'll probably be leaving skid marks on the bowl where his career used to be.

We all have a choice of whether or not to support this nonsense - it is that simple.

I'm sorry Jeff, but that's not correct.  Since no NFL team has signed the Dumbass, no fans or teams are supporting this lunacy.  He's on his own now and his actions are not bankrolled by the NFL.  If you're talking about the NFL in general, I think the majority of folks posting on this circle are going to continue watching the games regardless of the issues.  At least the free games on tv.

He's got talent. If he wants a chance and proves it in training camp, someone will give him another chance - but he can't screw up obviously.
