« on: 8 Oct 2018, 10:49 pm »

Just started in the diy hifi world a couple of years ago so still a fresh newbie.
The last two years has been different OB speakers that I have been working on and still are.
Hope to find some help and tips in here.

OB with w8-1808 and 15” woofers from PAP
Hegel HD11 DAC
2 x ACA 1.6 running mono
Paradigm PW Link
Auralic streamer
Diy power cleaner

  • To whom more was given more will be required.
    • Never go to a psychiatrist, adopt a straycat or dog. On the street they live only two years average.

I’ve heard the Pure Audio woofers at the US distributor’s house in Iowa (about 4 hours from my house). I also heard the version that used the multiple 12” woofers from Morel. The coolest part of that speaker was the dipole soft dome tweeter.  They had removed the back plate and you could see light shining through the tweeter dome.  That was a good speaker too, but my preference was for the dual 15” and the horn.

I do like the 1808 a lot but think the HF needs to be tamed a little.

It hard to fix in a OB as you cant stuffing the box to damp.
There is various xovers fans that like to put a notch filter.
An suggetion is toe in 30/40 deg, I could just put a cloth or
2mm felt as screen in front of the 1808 as a sock.

Thanks for the suggestion. Allready running the 1808 toed in about 15 deg and I like it as that, but there is still some HF that has to be tamed. Yesterday I was reading about a guy in here that knows how to tame the 1808 using x-over parts. It looks very good on paper the stuffe he did to the 1808. Did send him a PM about the filter parts and price for shipping to Denmark..... still waiting for reply.
Here is a link to it : https://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=158567.new#new

The suggestion about using filt I have done before with some cheap FR drivers and the filt did some good things to the FR - used it on the back side of the FR ( inner frame and out side on frame )
The way Danny Richie tame the 1808 ( see link above ) I think is the way forward.... just don’t know if it is useable for OB but I’m sure Danny can tell me that.

A notch filter will cost some cash not to mention time and ship price, you could consider sell this 1808 and buy a new suited driver that came with a ready good sound without any correction.

Corretions in critical areas as FR drivers are hard to sound good.
