SP14 pre-amp with Shaungang Treasure CV181Z tubes matched to perfection with the Audionote 4.1LE tube DAC.
Could not be happier.
Lifelike sound, incredible midrange with a strong bass.  :thumb:

Have a look at MHDT Labs DACs. They build well-respected, reasonably priced R2R DACs with tube output stages. I have the Pagoda (PCM1704) and can say it is not slow, soft, mushy, flabby, or tubey. The sound is wonderfully detailed and natural.

:thumb: Which are hard to find. The only company I know of that makes one is McIntosh. Van Alstine use to make  a tube pre with tone controls.

Bruce Rozenblit at Transcendent Sound was developing a preamp kit late in 2017 that had tubes and tone controls.  I don't see it listed yet on the products page, but it may be worth inquiring.
