I actually have not tubed this unit yet, but perhaps I should consider it...
The problem is that the chassis is so small that really need to put the high-voltage supply in a separate enclosure. This drives the price up, due to the cost of add'l connectors, umbilical, chassis, etc. I would also use higher quality transformers in this case however - our custom made Amveco toroidals, over the std Hammond trannys used in our Std Universal Truth Mod.
If I do this, I will build a more sophisticated supply with better regulation and possibly choke input. I also have a more sophisticated tube stage design that could be used. The only thing is that this mod would likely top out at $900+, so I don't know if there is interest in this level of mod for the Pioneer, given its price-point.
I do agree with Alex however, that it is an excellent machine and is a COMPLETE STEAL for $150.
