So the pitch clock knocks off about 20 minutes from the game where the average time was about 3 hours.
The game needed it IMHO.

Game times thru the years
https://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/majors/misc.shtml

around 2 hours in the early and mid 1900s. Creeping up to 2hrs 30min till early 1980s. Then  to 3 hrs from the early 1990s to present day.

What happened?

Crazy year.......... Orioles get swept in playoffs, gonna be a 'Texas shoot out' to see who wins the AL, Dodgers again prove they're not a post season ball club.

Fingers crossed for another Phillies performance like last nite ! No better home crowd than that @ 'The Bank' !!

For the Phillies one of the greatest post game interviews ever.  That's going on a plaque some day.  I was also shocked about the Orioles, what a collapse.  The Dodges are the Dodgers, again.  I still remember taking the bus from Escondido with Grandpa to watch Sandy Kofax or Don Drysdale.

This is why my huge BB fan friend hates the short series playoffs. The long grinding season does not always reward the best teams with WS titles. In normal situations, even the worst teams wins a third of their games, so even literally average teams can win a short series half the time.

how old is your buddy ? I ask because the 'best of 5' LCS has been around since I was a kid in High School (1969), it didn't expand to a 7 game series until 1985.

regardless, losers always make excuses for losing !   :nono:

60. But he's old school. He much prefers 1-0 games and good strategy.

Yeah, well I remember when there were only 6 teams in the NHL also, LOL !

Back to baseball, somewhat surprised the Astros are down 2 already. Nice start for the Fightin' Phils, crowd at 'the Bank' was at 111db last nite, hoping to hit 115db tonight ...... :o

The Phillies are (at the moment) an absolute juggernaut, the most complete team in the playoffs, no if's, and's or but's. Hoping they can keep it up for 6 more wins !

Dan Patrick noted this morning that you can't carry over runs.  That ten run outing today becomes two runs tomorrow.  I'm rooting hard for the Fightin Phils, but every game is a new starting pitcher.  DP went on a long list of recent teams that looked like they had it all sown up, then tied it to the 1960 world series where the Yankees outscored the Pirates by some crushing figure, only to lose game after game by one run until Maz's final home run.

Hard to win in Philly! Would like them to finish it quickly but we only need one in PHX then back to…

Agreed, but then 2-0 still wins ....... :D

Oh believe me I know the Phillies well, thus my 'for the moment' reference, I will say this though, if Ranger Suarez has a game like his last outing and the Phillies go up 3 zip, yeah I like their chances to go back to the WS !

As for 1960 and 'Maz', no question, greatest HR in history ! I wonder if that guy playing left field ever took that 'fork in the road' .......

Whew! The Phightins did their thing last night! Jumping out with an early stolen home plate lead, 2 big solo shots by Schwarber and Harper with a JT Realmuto 2 run dinger to cap it off! Wheeler threw for a solid 7 and kept the Snakes in check! Now back to The Bank with a one up series lead!
