Press Release

March 2009 – California speaker manufacturer Von Schweikert Audio announces new “super” mini-monitor named UniField Model 2.  If you are looking for a world-class small speaker, look no further.  New technology promises incredible sound quality not found in competing designs.

Based on technology developed for the UniField Model 3, which has received incredible critical acclaim by the world’s audio magazines, the UniField Model 2 offers the highest quality of sound possible in a single cabinet speaker.  Retailing for $7,995/pr, the UniField Model 2 offers deeper bass and better image focus than any other mini speaker in the world, at any price.

The UniField Model 2 is a three-way speaker in a “heroically” built cabinet with 75mm thick cabinet walls, constructed of three different materials.  Our Triple-Threat cabinet construction offers the most transparent sound ever heard in a speaker system using a conventional cabinet. The three wall materials are: 20mm MDF, 5mm rubber, 20mm stone, 5mm rubber, and 20mm hard felt.  The three different “Q” Factors of the three different materials eliminates any cabinet resonance, creating what will soon be considered the “Best Speaker” in its class.  In addition, the internal reflections are eliminated by the use of the non-parallel curved sides.

To insure electrostatic-style clarity, our European drivers are the finest available and are licensed by the British Broadcast Corporation (BBC).  Using exotic cone materials and Low Distortion Motors, this three-way design can outperform speakers twice its size!

I became the first US dealer to purchase a pair of the Unifield 2's...  Had a long discussion with Albert this afternoon..  Apparently yet another show-stopper from VSA!  I've ordered a pair finished in natural cherry(with sound anchor stands) and they may ship to me next wk.. Will take pictures once set-up.  Cor I've heard this product in particular was driven by European demand...  Alberts pretty pumped with the final results.. Hope he has a chance to detail on this forum...

I know this isn't isolated to the Unifield 2's concentric mid/tweet arrangement (doesn't Tannoy do the same sometimes?), but can someone explain how the motion of the midrange driver doesn't mess up the sound made by the tweeter? Maybe the vibrations are in phase at the crossover point so it doesn't matter?

I'd think that they would interfere but hey that's why it's not VonSchulz Audio

Hi Mike,

Let me give you a sample.

In a symphonic orchestra there is often a triangle playing.
When you ask the triangleplayer to play something as solo you can barely hear the instrument in a concerthall.
But when the triangle is playing together with the orchestra you will hear the instrument all over the concerthall.
Why? Because the triangle is in the middle of the orchestra and the big (sound)waves of the bass and other harmonics 'carry' the thin waves of the triangle and lift them all over the place. But when the tirangle was out of reach of the rest of the orchestra it would not happen. We call this effect sound by nature and  when this sound is called music you have natural music.

Enjoy the music.

Cor :|

Hi Jack,

Thanks for your post too.

Cor I've heard this product in particular was driven by European demand...  Albert's pretty pumped with the final results.. Hope he has a chance to detail on this forum...

In Europe we are happy to have a smaller speaker like the Unifield Two. In Europe houses are smaller and listenrooms are quite small too.
As you know big speakers in a small room will have a conflict. The Unifield III is a very subtle and musical solution for this. The Unifield model Two will be even better in these tiny rooms were roomacoustics are very rare.
As we always say; don't play big music in a small room but if you do use the VSA's cause they can manage.

I will put some nice pictures on the circle as soon as we have set up the system in Rotterdam.

Regards,

Cor

Hi Jack,

The Unifield Two arrived yesterday. After a day of recovery I connected them to the KR amplifiers.

Wow what a great sound from such a little speaker. Unbelievable!!!! :)

This weekend I will put some pictures on line.

Hi folks,

All night working. Here is the first picture.

The Marble stand is designed specially for the Unifield Two.
Weight 45 kg and is sounding superb. Very tight bass and a huge stage.
Unbelievable.

Soon more pictures from our show in Rotterdam.

Cheers,

Cor

cor..

I didn't realize that the unifield 2 didn't have the ribbon tweeter.  In your opinion, how does the treble of the 2 compare to the 3?

thx.

The Two has e very intelligent driver.

It is sort of a one way supported by a woofer.

The tweeter is in the middle of the driver.
This way easens the re cognation of the original instruments and voices.
Very coherent, huge stage and very dynamic with a lot of basspower.
Never heard so much music at high level coming out of a small box.

Of course the Unifield Three is superior, it cost double.

Come to Rotterdam this weekend and feel for yourself.

regards,

Cor

The tweeter is in the middle of the driver.

Looks like a SEAS T18RE/XFCTV2. It could be the same as we all can buy, or a custom version.

I like the looks of those Unifield Two's with those stands! Could be a good surround back speaker with my "Annies" up front.  aa
