Oldtimer from Norway says hello
« on: 6 Feb 2023, 07:58 am »

Old diy`er here, low budget high-ender.(!) Designed my own speakers* back in the 80-90`s, also known as cable-guru and hifi-healer.

Havent touched my system for many years now but since my dac just died I`m in the marked for a replacement. A friend tryes to push his old Emotiva Steath on me, it might do the job. It`s "only" for my TV/PC but still..

Been reading the "dacs for peanuts" thread with interest. The fun with hifi is to see how close to the top on a moderate budget and mybe some
 tweaking.

Norway has a warm place in my heart & memory for many reasons. Currently one of my favorite streaming Jazz stations is NRK. Welcome to the AudioCircle and good luck finding your new DAC  :thumb:

Thanks FullRangeMan, will take a look!

Here`s some pics from my old 4-way project:

See the coil here? That`s 6awg copper. Everything from(including) the seconarys in the poweramp to the speakers internal wiring has the same area. 7awg solid to the woofers, 9awgx2 to low mid, 9awg to high mid and a tiny 12awg to the over 6khz tweeter. This in a asymetric (no standing waves=lost energy) no absorbers cabinet with a 5" aerodynamic "trumpet" port close to the floor.

I have a background in live music and my focus has been to recreate live dynamics via a pair of livingroom-friendly nice looking speakers based on common technology. And that`s exactly what I`ve done, these (I call them small) for-way speakers can do just that; make a drum-set sound like it is live in the room. Open baffle? Horns? No thanks
