Onix Strata Mini: Need Replacement 5.25" Drivers
« on: 17 Mar 2013, 07:28 am »
Yep, it seems I just blew one of my mid drivers. ... And of course I can't contact AV123...

Danny Richie over on this thread looked like a good lead, but it seems I'm unable to send private messages or even see his profile.

I'm really hoping someone can help me or send me in the right direction here.

Thanks !

Danny Richie

Welcome to AC.

Your first couple of post have to be approved.

Sorry, but I do not have any of the Mini Strata drivers left.

You might ask sandbagger if he has any Strata Mini woofers or know of any.

Also, check with Hugh from Angel City Audio.  I believe he is currently working with the OEM for those drivers on other projects.

Hugh is asking what the model number of the driver is. Does somebody know? I would think all Strata Minis have the same model driver . . .

Not trying to be coy suggesting the obvious, but if you pull the bad one from your speaker, it doesn't happen to have a label or any other markings on it?

Also, when pulling these drivers (and I'm trying my best to remember details from a crossover upgrade thread on the old va321 forum), since you can't push them out from the back and they can sometimes be stuck in pretty tight, the best advice I had seen to avoid damaging the cabinet finish was to use an allen key or something like a spring hook to hook the driver from inside one of the screw holes in the frame and pull it out that way.

Yep! Driver was a pain to get out of my Minis when I gutted mine. Did the screw hole prying thing and it finally came out that way. Maybe there's a better way, but I don't know it.

BTW, my Strata Minis are still sounding great in my system but I'm thinking they might be the weak link now w/ mod'd Mac Mini (battery powered), Tranquility SE dac, and Odyssey Pre-amp and amp present.

Yeah, Hugh suggested how I really wanted to look at the model number on the driver to be sure what it is, which I have now done. He says he will be able to find this driver for me. \o/ I'm just awaiting a price.

Thanks so much, guys. Hopefully I'll have my Mini's back in service in short order.
