Wow, Laundrew, this got me tumbling down a rabbit hole this morning! I grew up in England in the 50s/60s and had a red and green Meccano set with a steam engine. I remember those hundreds of tiny screws and nuts that ended up everywhere in our house and the "methylated spirits" (denatured alcohol) used to fuel the steam engine.
There's an extensive Wikipedia entry on Meccano...

I think - from looking at online pictures - I had the Mamod SE2. We emigrated to the U.S. in 1969, bringing almost nothing with us. It's amazing how many "treasures" we gave away!

This brings back some wonderful memories of my childhood. When I was about eight, my parents gave me a beginner’s level Meccano set with all red and green pieces. Shortly thereafter, I made friends with another kid a few doors down the road. Turns out he had a veritable trunk of Meccano parts that were either his father’s or grandfather’s (I can’t remember). This collection had everything including motors and many, many pieces. We spent numerous happy hours building things with this set. The one major difference from mine was that the parts (at least the lengths, as I recall) were a uniform battleship grey. I can’t remember now whether or not the plates were a different colour. Could this have been the standard before Meccano decided to up its marketing game with more appealing colours?

I also had a Minibrix set if anyone recalls those.

A mans’ wife wasn’t feeling well so he took her to the doctor. After examining the wife the doctor said to the man, “well she either  has dementia  or a sexually transmitted disease” Husband “what should I do?” doctor “If it where me I’d take her a long way away and drop her off, if she finds her way home I won’t have sex with. her.

A Chinese businessman shared this image saying that children's happiness is the most precious thing in the world.
The man allows children to jump and play on this Lomborgini.
The beautiful thing about this story is that the children are not his...and neither is Lomborgini.
