Title: Pickleball anyone?
Post by: stlrman on 5 Jul 2017, 10:01 pm
Anyone play ? I may give it a whirl on Friday. Looks like a fun , fast game. I'm playing indoors in the gym at a JCC.
Seems like maybe a lot less impact on the body than tennis.
Sample of doubles:

I have a regulation size pickle ball court at my house, it is a blast to play!

A Dr. on one of the islands near Seattle came up with the game so it has been very popular here for many years.

We even played it in High School gym class and also in College.

Pickle Ball is kind of like ping pong but you are standing on the table. A combination between that and tennis and it still gives you a good workout.

The reason it is called pickle ball if anyone is curious is the Dr. had a dog (a golden I believe) and when the ball would leave the court the dog would grab it and take off. The dogs name was Pickles so each time he would take off with the ball they would say "that's pickle's ball".

Also.....the sound of them hitting the ball sounds like opening a jar of pickles.   :thumb:

I gave up tennis almost a year ago after my right Achilles was diagnosed with chronic tendinitis. I now ride a bicycle for exercise but miss the action. I may give pickleball a go.

The retirement community I am moving to will have one or two pickle ball courts when the resort portion is completed.  Sadly, I won't be able to play because of one knee being much older than the other.

They are also going to have bocci ball. I watched my Italian grandfather and relatives play.  That is a noisy game.

What a fantastic game !!!! :thumb: :thumb:
I picked it up really fast as I come from playing tennis all my life, and I have very good hand eye coordination.
We played all doubles, I got a great work out , played 2 hours straight . Need quick reflexes.
A lot of bending real low to get balls just a few inches off the court.
I'm very sore!!
It's really fun !!
Playing again on Tuesday .
I would like to try playing singles, although doubles is a blast .
