Cherry for Dynaudio Floorstanders?
« on: 19 Jul 2018, 05:21 pm »
Hey,
I'm looking for an amplifier for my Dynaudio Contour S3.4 floor standing speakers.
I believe there about eight or 10 years old and have a reputation for needing and
wanting extra power to fully realize the potential of the speakers.

I really like the SS/Class D hybrid layout and what I've read:
fast but not edgy, but  organic sounding ...

The speakers are 4 Ohm with 86 dB sensitivity, and rated up to 270 watts handling.
 Here are the specs:

The Cherries appear powerful, would be up to 600-800 watts for the Dynaudio's,
greatly exceeding the 270 Watt stated max. Although I think others use more than
 270W with success.

The main reason I like the bigger Cherries is b/c of the large transformer,
which I believe the STM, for example, does not have

So, would the Cherries (Ultra or the other model) be TOO powerful
for the Dyns and cause clipping or blow the speakers?

thanks!

I bought a pair of Maraschino kings for my avalon opus because they are a very tough load and extremely revealing. The Kings don't break a sweat at any volume, and sound as good as any $10k amp I've heard. Any of the high watt Dac amps will do the dyns justice.
Don't worry about too large an amp; most speaker damage comes from clipping an amp that is too small.

We are expecting a pair of Desktop Maraschinos next week as a trade-in.  This pair has two upgrades: WBT Gold posts, and double capacitance.  With 48V power supplies, you get 250Wpc into 4Ω.  The sound of these is very dynamic, with DC coupling (no bass phase shift), ultra quiet noise floor (118dB SNR), and 100kHz bandwidth.  Since these will be sold as a demo, you can get the silky Cherry sound for pennies on the dollar. If interested, simply email us at Support@DigitalAmp.com.  Thanks.

Thx for your testimony John, from what I've read online, it all seems true about the Cherry Amps.

Which is why I have "trust" issues with amps, the numbers in the specs are just a broad guide. So 675 watts into a 4 ohm-down to 2 ohm load, seems about right for these power hungry speakers.

Congratulations who?me?.
I have the Golden Maraschinos, my speakers have 90DB sensitivity and are 6 ohm. But with the Ultra's on your speakers you will have the fast sound and detail of the Maraschinos combined with power. Let us know how your speakers perform with these amps but I'm quite sure you will like these.
