re-purposing 8ohm subwoofer drivers
« on: 11 May 2021, 02:52 pm »
I'm moving into a larger room and thinking about getting the triple stack of OB subwoofers.  Can the 8ohm drivers be put into a sealed or ported cabinet and be re-purposed for home theater duty?  Does anyone have any box plans for a dual 12" sealed or ported box if it's possible?

To my knowledge, I dont think anyone has put the 8ohm subs into sealed cabinet, esp since their designs are tweaked for OB use.

I imagine a dual seal sub box is possible, or at least tweak the design of a single cabinet to have a shared inner wall between the upper and lower sections, and shared outer walls.

I took a look at Rythmic’s website and they have plans for this driver in a sealed or ported down firing cabinet, but only for a single driver.

The 8 ohm woofers on our site are designed for free air operation. They can be used in a sealed box, but each woofer needs about 7 cubic feet of air space.

Thaaaats A LOT of airspace... :o
Standard sealed cabinet is ~1.6 cubic ft, so you're looking at a box that is approximately 4.4x the volume per woofer...

Got crawl space? Infinite baffle is cool.

They do work really well in an infinite baffle.
