Clear Audio Turnable & arm compatibility
« on: 19 May 2005, 04:11 am »
Recently purchased a used Clearaudio Turntable (aprox 4 yrs old) and have yet to hear it due to my own screw-up in installing the arm.  Checked to see about rewiring & repairing the arm, cost around $550.  I think for that amount of cash I could purchase decent a used arm, getting better value.

Any suggestions?

Saw on audiogon a Graham Robin tonearm with a Rega mount.  Will this work on the turntable?  Any sources for my questions?

Hi,
I presume your turntable came with either a Rega arm or the 9" Unify that uses the same 222mm mounting distance? I haven't any experience with the deck but there are loads of arms that will fit the 23-25mm cutout at 222mm, if thats what you have? You can check out which arms here: http://www.vinylengine.com/manuals_tonearm_specs.shtml

Also which cartridge do you intend to use? Its worthwhile checking that the cartridge you have (or intend to buy) will work in your chosen arm. If you have the effective mass of the arm this page should tell you if they are compatible resonance wise: http://www.cartridgedb.com/

You could also try asking over at the vinyl asylum, someone over there is bound to have experience of your deck? http://www.audioasylum.com/audio/vinyl/bbs.html

Regards,
JaS

at that price, you may wanna inwestigate re-wiring the arm yourself.  otherwise, i would look for an origin-live ol-1 arm.  killer arm for the $$$, & it can be found used for less than $550, since that's about the cost of one brand-new...
