BD Audio via Optical

So I was going to continue to hold out a bit longer for a new BD player with analog outs, but have been very tired of waiting. I've had a 1080p pj in here since February with no source, so I went out and bought the new Sony 350. I have to say, I'm glad I did...it's taken  movies to a new level for sure.  :thumb:

What I've noticed, however, is that DD and DTS tracks via my regular optical output into my pre/pro sound much better than they did with regular DVDs. The surrounds seem much more active than before and the overall SQ seems improved. Shouldn't the regular DD/DTS tracks on BD discs be the same as what are found on SD DVDs?? I watched "Never Back Down" last night and thought someone was going to come in through the back wall and take me out with a roundhouse while I was sitting in my chair.

Its possible that the regular DD/DTS tracks are encoded at a higher bitrate than they would be on an SD-DVD (given the extra space), but that is just a guess.
