this story I read at Slate Magazine on MSN. Looks like the impending format war is starting to heat up if the more mainstream publications are talking about it.
I've been sorta pulling for Blu-ray, although god only knows how it'll go. Blu-Ray does seem to be marginally better, although that writer trivializes the cost differences. Since the costs will be borne by us, the consumers, it is a factor in whether or not a new format can succeed. Sony has announced the new Playstation 3 will incorporate a Blu-ray drive, so chalk up some instant cred for that format. However, Microsoft has thrown its $100 bil muscle behind HD-DVD.
