Who else HATES Miles Davis?

Well, I'm a Davis fan, too, sort of. So "I wanna hold your hand. Oh yeah..ah..ah..." Hahaa....brilliant indeed.

Popularity, particularly among the screaming prepubescent female masses, doesn't necessarily translate to musical excellence.

As a matter of fact, mostly they didn't care about the music. It was all idol worship. Again, back to the videos...can you even hear the music/songs? Nope. They were more important than their music. They (the Beatles) were a social phenomenon, of that there is no doubt.

Comparing pop to pop seems more appropriate. Miles vs Beatles? I wouldn't put either on the turntable frankly. Both are interesting but I get no goosebumps. Funny though, I feel like I should get them from miles but it just doesn't happen. Anyone here ever see the Beatles live? I saw McCartney with Wings. Super fun.

I sort of like this cut. But being an ex-horn player, I can tell you that what Miles is doing on the song is outrageously difficult. He's a master at the trumpet.

To me, jazz is something that resides deep. You either get it and like it, or you don't.

Regarding Miles being pop...no. But his fusion style surely softens the emotional rage in internal conflict of pure jazz.

When I played guitar a lot it was mostly John Fahey, Doc Watson, Eric Schoenberg, Happy Traum, etc. Around that time a friend used to rave about Jeff Beck, someone I had heard without knowing his name. I didn't give rat's whiskers about Beck.

That was stupid, even for someone as stupid as me. Beck is obviously gifted and I'd cross state lines to see him now (especially with Tal Wilkenfeld).

But I have to generally agree, I still don't get Miles.
