I got lucky and found this DVD player at Goodwill for $30.
The back of the unit is copper, caught my eye.

2001 Stereophile Review:

The reviews from 16 years ago offer praise, but just curious if anyone is using one?
or past experience with?

Right now I'm playing a NIRVANA DVD-Halloween - 1992 or so - with an
older AudioQuest Vodka Toslink, and it sounds very good, especially the lower end,
very clear and delineated.

.  My DAC tells me the recording is running at 48khz, not sure if it is 16 or 24 bit.
.  The Toshiba allows you to turn the video functioning off, so you can just hear the audio, reducing distortion further.
.  No HDMI!

I sent away for some video component cables from Blue Jeans Cable and the picture looks good on my Panasonic Plasma TV.

Surprised it's still working as the 9200 was notoriously unreliable. I bought a used 9200 while they were still in production. It died within a year.

I have a 9200 that I have used as a transport, coax out to dac for many years.  In my modest system it has been my go to source, I think i paid $400 back in 2008 or so,  you scored a sweet deal!!!  enjoy

I hear ya. there is a raunchy grinding sound when I turn it on,
like some bad rheumatoid arthritis, commensurate with its age.

It goes away after about a minute or two ....
will see if it is worthwhile to send it in and have refurbished or not.
