Title: ZEUS v.3 oh yeah!
Post by: Daedalus Audio on 19 Sep 2021, 12:42 am
The new ZEUS v.3. Yes they are taller and yes that is a new much larger midrange and yes the base cabinet is almost the same width as the top cabinet.

They are finally fully broken in and voiced. These are by far the best I have ever done. Checks all the audiophile boxes but you don't notice that because the music just sounds.... real.  :thumb:

In case anyone was wondering I will be going to Capital Audio Fest and I have the same room as always (Randolph). This year will be:
The ZEUS v.3 (the ones in the pic)
The VAC Statement 450i iQ (same as we used in FLA 2019)
http://www.vac-amps.com/productPages/Statement450i_iQ.html (http://www.vac-amps.com/productPages/Statement450i_iQ.html)
Whatever is the current statement DAC etc from Lampizator
(They never let me down, always great sound)
and of course top shelf cables from WyWires

Don't miss this room.

Oh yeah and  to show what we can do in a smaller room we will be in Room 314 showing our Muse/Studio with LTA gear and all vinyl. :D

Have a safe trip and a great time Lou.  :thumb:  Impressive new model, maybe I'll get to hear it next year at the show.

Lou,

Knowing your high standards and hearing these are by far the best you’ve ever done is really saying something!

There is obviously a totally new (for Daedalus and the Zeus) midrange driver.  Care to say more?   :)

Sorry to pile on here, but does that new midrange get incorporated across the entire line or just a few models?

Great question!  The new midrange and crossover are in all of the Apollo Series (ZEUS,Apollo, Apollo11)

The Athena Series (8" woofer) will continue with the same midrange.
thanks :)

The driver is from the same manufacturer and is also a full range driver.  Very smooth and phase coherent, and we are able to add an octave to it's range.

We have not finished any of the new Apollo or Apollo11 yet, I can't wait to hear the results in those models.

It looks too big to retrofit to the existing Apollo 11?

Yep that it is. I have always tried to keep an upgrade path open, but that is not always possible.

That being said the new version 4.5" midrange (which can be retrofitted with some crossover changes) does raise the bar in all the pre 2021 versions.

thanks!

Lou,

Just for clarity, is this new midrange a suitable upgrade for my Apollos (not that there's anything wrong with the music they make now!)?

Yes it is Michael :thumb: I think there have been several improvements since your set was made, including better tweeters, better midrange and the Duelund option? If I am correct in all those then the difference will be dramatic.

Shipping via LTL (anything too large or heavy for regular FedEx or UPS) is a somewhat scary proposition the last few months.  Regular FedEx and UPS isn't what it used to be either.  Hopefully everything gets to the show undamaged and on time.

Next time consider hiring an exclusive use truck. Many outfits runs sprinter vans and box trucks these days. In fact with the price of gear today, I would not put anything of higher value on a small parcel carrier or LTL company to save my life no matter how well it is crated. These products get cross docked, fork lifted, and man handled too many times for my liking. Best way to not have cargo claims is to avoid them all together. I work in transportation and logistcs, if anyone have any shipping questions drop me a message anytime I would be glad to help.

Good luck with the show, your products are beautiful!
