A vendor at work likes that song, and has enjoyed the "Pitch Perfect" movies.

I grew up on hooky pop and you know what? I loved it. It was my intro to recorded music that wasn't my parents'. Playing my sister's (while she was gone, of course) Black Sabbath and Steppenwolf and Iron Butterfly. Loud was good, louder was better, damn the fidelity...

NO!!! You can't trash In-a-godda-da-vida it's one of my favorite songs that I re-mastered. I consider the song a masterpiece. "Please take my hand"

I enjoyed this little snippet from Wikipedia—I often wondered about the name:

"Though it was not recorded until their second album, "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" was written during Iron Butterfly's early days. According to drummer Ron Bushy, organist/vocalist Doug Ingle wrote the song one evening while drinking an entire gallon of Red Mountain wine. When the inebriated Ingle then played the song for Bushy, who wrote down the lyrics for him, he was slurring his words so badly that what was supposed to be "in the Garden of Eden" was interpreted by Bushy as "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida".[9] Catalogs.com confirmed that the song "was supposed to have been titled 'In The Garden of Eden', but the singer was slurring his words when he told Ron Bushy, the drummer, the title, and the garbled name stuck."[10]"

That song first made it on the charts, then slowly dropped off. Then it came back and made it big with album play and that made it to #4. It was the first considered heavy metal song. I played it all the time when I was a DJ in high school. I never knew it was In the Garden of Eden until recently.

The original 17:00 minute version. It's not perfect, I raised the noise floor and did not filter it out. Noticeable during playback during the quiet passages in drum solo, but no big deal, at least for me.

IIRC Iron Butterfly was never able to duplicate this version on stage again. It was a one time deal they got right the first time. Supposedly the drum solo was done in studio and edited in.

It sounds like it, because for everything but the solo the drums sound mono and panned hard right, but in the solo not only do they become stereo, they become 'super-stereo' with all kinds of panning sweeps, starting around 6:38 and lasting until 9:30, at which point they return to the right channel except for the stereo reverb which keeps them from sounding too starkly mono.

You must be listening to an earlier vinyl release because I don't hear the drums panned hard right. It sounds centered to me, could be mono as you say, from cd. The solo is as you say.

Take Made in Japan for example: earlier version has Blackmore's guitar on the right. The re-mastered 25 anniversary edition has it more balanced to the center soundstage.

It doesn't sound significantly different to me, except for general levels and vocal tone, but on careful comparison I am struck by the very heavy handed use of compression with a too-slow release time on the vocal. I put them up side by side and compared section by section.

Notice how at the start of every lyric line the voice takes an immediate and obvious plunge in level and continues on down as long as the lyric line continues. At first I thought I was hearing a too-slow reaction by an engineer riding gain, but when it started happening on each vocal line in the same way I realized it was badly set compression.

This is hardly pro-grade recording quality, even for that time. There was some good work being done by others. Maybe too much wine or other consumables going on all round.
