The article states (correctly) that Van Gelder "helped define the sound of jazz on record". His list of credits would be far too long to name but it's a solid bet that a lot of your favorite albums would be on it. RIP

How many great, not just good, lp's did he leave his mark on?  Over 200, maybe 500.
He was a giant.

just picked up 12 albums at an estate sale over the weekend, including Wes Montgomery's A Day in the Life, and yes, it was a Creed Taylor production, arranged by Don Sebesky but it has Van Gelder on the run out circle.  God knows how many fabulous albums just those three people are responsible for.
